Peter knows what is best, and is more open-minded, whereas Nathan, Congressman though he may be, always seems to be controlled by someone, whether it is Linderman, his father, or his mother, he is not in the place he is now because of his own doing, and Peter is. He became a nurse with no help from anyone else, which shows that he must be smarter than Nathan, even if he is no longer a nurse anyway.
