"It was awesome getting to play the first female President of the United States," Ward tells PEOPLE. "She’s strong, decisive and not afraid to kick ass!"
The sequel, set to hit theaters on June 26 of next year, is a follow-up to the classic that first hit theaters nearly 20 years ago – and the
veteran says there are many similarities to the first science-fiction film.
"The film has great humor, like the first one, with lots of action and mind-blowing special effects," she says.
