CL admits 'Goodbye' is a letter for ex-2NE1 member Minzy; Opens up about US debut

Despite this heartbreaking time the show must go on for 2NE1 leader CL as she prepares for her impending US debut. In a recent interview, CL talked about making a breakthrough in the US music scene and opened up about 2NE1\'s break up.

"I learned how to make an album, and how to communicate with the American public," CL told Ilgan Sports (via allkpop) about her two-year "training period" in the US.

CL said that being a "pop star in the US" is her dream for her and she\'s been working hard towards that even while she was still training at YG Entertainment. She chose the genre pop because it\'s what "influenced her musical life the most."

Ever since preparations for her US debut went into full swing, CL has appeared in several singles with Western acts such as Skrillex. Her first official US single came in the form of "Lifted," which shot straight to Billboard\'s Hot 100 chart upon its release.

The song samples Wu-Tang Clan\'s 1993 single "Method Man."  In the accompanying video, Method Man himself makes a cameo appearance.

CL also spoke about 2NE1\'s disbandment. She expressed hope that someday 2NE1 will reunite and perform again together on stage.  She quipped that she needs to stay in shape in order to perform "Fire" after 20 years.

2NE1 made their disbandment official with the release of their final track "Goodbye." The melancholic, guitar-driven ballad was written by CL and features vocals from Dara, Park Bom and CL herself.

Although former Minzy did not take part in the song and music video, some clips of her were featured in the "Goodbye" MV. According to Koreaboo, CL said that she wrote "Goodbye" as a letter to Minzy. CL assured fans that they harbor no hard feelings for Minzy and even wished her success in her future endeavors.
