Next town over at a restaurant.
Yuzu picked at the food on her plate. It smelled good, but also off as if there was something missing. "Is there something wrong with the food miss?" The waitress said. "Oh no....well it could use a pinch of oregano.Maybe a dash of celery salt too." The waitress nodded and went back to the kitchen and grabbed the items. "We aim to please." Yuzu blushed and thanked her before adding the ingredients. A delicate sniff made her smile. "Perfect." The waitress came closer and wafted the scent towards herself. " Oh my it does smell much better. I think I'll have to tell the cook to add them to the dish. " Karin snorted." You mean he'll actually listen to you?" The waitress chuckled. " He'd better, he's my kid brother." She went off with a wink to the other tables then. When the check came due there wasn't one. Going to the hostess the woman said with a smile. "Nothing, your daughter improved the dish to the point that it is now the favorite." She turned to the girl who was blushing. "When you get older come back to us if we are still here. Perhaps you can leave us your number even and we can pick at your brain now and again from time to time before that time." Yuzu felt a crackle of electricity shoot threw her spine. Her father only laughed and not only left them their phone number but address. "We're staying at the Lotus Hotel. My daughter Karin is playing in the soccer tournament." Karin rolled her eyes. "I'm sorry. Dad stop hitting on the hostess. It's embarrassing." The hostess blushed. "Its alright. He's much better looking then most of the men who flirt with me." Yuzu found her eyes going to an old necklace in a frame. A woman coming in noticed her doing so and smiled. "You like the necklace don't you my dear." Yuzu blushed at being caught. "Oh don't be that way, most people don't seem to find it that intriguing. I'm glad you do." The woman took the display down and popped out the back. "Oh no you don't have to give it to me. I'll pay for it." Yuzu opened up her purse, but the woman put her hand on hers
"My children no longer care to come home and you have done me a great service. I would rather see it cherished then forgotten." Yuzu studied the emblem on the medallion. "Is the dragon protecting the flower?" The woman kissed her head. "Such a smart girl. Yes. Take good care of it. It will show you the path needed to be taken when all seems bleak, it never let me down. Now it is yours." Then the woman walked out of the restaurant. "Yuzu? Yuzu who were you talking too?" Karin asked. "I don't know. She didn't say. Mame do you know who that woman was?" Karin pulled her slightly to the side. "Sorry mame she's a little tired. Long day." The woman nodded sympathetically. Yuzu frowned at her sister. "I was talking with a woman." Karin clamped her hand over her sister's mouth." I trust you to have seen and talked with someone, but I couldn't sense or see them and neither could anyone else. Just keep it to yourself. Don't even talk to dad about this, not till we figure out what is going on."
The high king's palace During the soul surge.
The high king fell to his knees, his head barely able to lift. His eyes taking in the shock and horror of the rest of his court as they were flattened by the pressure. When it finally released he stumbled to his feet and then to the room he had locked centuries ago. He passed threw the door and barrier to the book on its pedestal. For thousands of years it had remained quiet, and unmoving. As if to bring his nightmares to life a page turned. " No. Its not possible. It can't be." The book spit in his eye turning not just one but chapters of them. "Ani! Means! To me now!" Two dark shadows detached from his to kneel before him. " The book has awakened find the smiths and kill them. Leave no lose ends, kill whoever sides with them. I will send out the reapers as well, it matters not who kills them only that they die." The one raised his head." By any means?" The high king chuckled. "Necessary and unnecessary. Now go." When they left he peered into the book and started to laugh. The smiths had larger problems then he had thought possible. For a moment he thought about calling them back and felt the 2 assassins pause in their flight. "Go but do not interfere. They have more trouble then even I could handle. If the smiths somehow live then we will act."
