I tried to avoid Mathew today, even though he was my best friend since....well...ever.I just couldn't see him after what happened ,even though I had feelings for him ,I couldn't show it to him ,it would just ruin what little friendship that was left! But I couldn't keep it up for long, Mathew was going to live with me, and we simply had the same lessons and most everything in common.
"Um.. Jess? Can we talk? “Mathew said ,looking away.
"Err...I don’t know, Mat, the bell's about to ring...” I said, trying to avoid eye contact,"I don't want to get caught late to class..."
"Jessica...”He said as he reached for my hand, but I didn't give it to him,"We need to talk-"
"I don’t have time... I'm...I'm sorry" I lied to him! Why did I lie to him? We've always been so close, it was obvious to him that I was lying...that...that I was avoiding him.
"Jess...”He said, holding me back."I'm sorry! We have to talk, you can't just avoid it"
The bell rang.
I looked through my notebook, looking for the class I was heading to.
"It's lunch next" he continued, looking down.
My eyes widened...my heart sanked, I knew he was upset, he'd never admit it, but he was.
"I promise, we'll talk, just...not yet.” I gave him a hug before walking away, making sure he wouldn't see what was going on, that I was upset...that I was hurt.
Mathew's point of view:
I headed towards the back of the school, distracted from the outside world.
God! I'm so stupid!
"Mathew! Hey! Yo dude, Mathew!" a voice started calling.
I kept walking ,thinking about how I could ever fix things.
"Mathew! Wait up ,man!”
Annoyed, angry, and upset, I finally turned around to face the person; it was Connor, once again with his football,waiting for another game.Connor was a freshman, he moved in not long ago, and you'd never think that I would be friends with him, but I was.We were friends since the day he came up to me with his football, and we'll always be as long as there's a game to play.
"Ey man, I've been calling you since ever, what's up?”
"not in the mood" I said with anger in my tone, as I walked away.
"Scared I'll beat you this time?" he called out with a smile
"Dude, Fuck off!"
"wha..whats?"
"I said Fuck Off!"
Back to Jessica's point of view:
I sat on the floor ,crying ,meaningless tears falling ,rolling down my cheeks .Tears because i couldn't handle it,tears because i couldn't hold it in anymore,tears....tears because i loved him.
My phone rang,
"Jessica," It was Kaitlin, her voice breathless. "There's a problem here”
"Between me and Mathew? Yeah, I wanted to talk to you about, I-" I said, my voice trembling helplessly
"No ,no .no "Kaitlin inturupted," You have to get to the hospi-"
"Kaith?? Kaith ? Whats going on ?"
Nothing,
I looked at my phone ...our line got cut off.
