Nightfall: Chapter 21: Will I Be Able to Save Him? Jake's POV

It kind of sucked to give up our alone time. If I could I would spend forever with Nessie hidden in these woods- but my heart leapt at the thought of seeing our children. I stopped running for a moment completely thrown back by the thought. Our children. Ness and I had 6 kids to raise. My chest filled with pride at the thought, but reality quickly set in leading my throat to dry up. How in the hell were we going to manage this!?
My thoughts were cleared as I felt a rock slam into my back tackling me to the ground with a giggle. Hmm… a giggling rock…
“Ok, I know that you have always let me win but really I don’t need the head starts anymore newborn remember?” I held onto her hands as I leapt to my feet and pulled her around to face me. Her legs wrapped themselves around my waist as though she couldn’t control it; the force between us truly was magnetic. She swept her hand across my face as she kissed my nose gently. “What’s wrong with my sparkly wolf man?” She cooed. I rolled my eyes at what was apparently now her favorite nickname for me and then averted my eyes from her. She always knew when something was bothering me and it was almost impossible for me to hide it for too long. I buried my face in her soft curls and breathed in without answering. The force of her newborn strength shocked me as she gripped my chin and pulled my face up to meet her startling crimson eyes.
“Jake, seriously what is it?” I sighed as I dragged my gaze up to meet hers.
“What if we can’t do this? I mean six kids is a lot to begin with but with their abilities… our whole family can’t even handle them and there are only two of us…” Her eyes softened as she kissed my forehead moments before leaning hers against it.
“We have gotten through a lot worse than six babies Jacob Black.” I looked away from her again knowing that she was right… but still- this was different. This was 6 innocent lives that we were talking about; it would be so easy for me to mess up. I had fucked up so many times throughout my life and couldn’t bear the thought of ruining this.
“What if I am not a good father I just know I’m going to screw this up.”
She brushed her lips across mine pulling away just long enough to murmur, “You are going to be an amazing father. I wish you had the level of faith in yourself that I do. You are the great grandson of Ephraim Black. You are the first leader of your kind. You can most definitely handle this. Plus as an added bonus you have me…” she said the last part in a tiny voice almost as though she weren’t sure that it would provide me with the level of comfort she hoped it would. She was so ridiculous to doubt her value in my eyes. Without her I was nothing. I wrapped my arms around her tighter as I brought my lips back to hers.
“Thank you,” I whispered seconds before our lips met with unadulterated passion that paralleled the way that we had spent the past 24 hours. She finally pulled away breathlessly an adorable dent of confusion on her perfect face.
“For what?” I set her onto her feet brushing my lips across her forehead.
“For doing for me what no one else has ever been able to. You believe in me no matter what with you by my side I can get through anything- you make me want to be the best at all that I do. I love you Nessie, so much that it scares me.” She kissed my cheek.
“I love you too Jacob never doubt the potential that you hold- you are the father of a new race.” Her eyes flickered as a wicked gleam darkened them. She swung back and smacked my ass.
“Come on papa wolf lets get home before the big bad babies blow the house down.” I cracked up at the look on her face, how could she go from being so serious to acting like a teenager in the span of seconds… She took off before I had a chance to react. I ran as hard as I could but was no match for her. As we got closer to Forks I heard a tiny but familiar voice growling angrily in my mind.
“Jacob I am your alpha and you WILL listen to me, I have had it with you.” I paused for a moment I knew that voice but how the hellwas I hearing her like this… the tiny growl erupted again. It was replaced by Sam's voice.
"Jake? Are you on your way back?" Oh my god, my daughter was able to communicate with me and Sam... like Alphas ae able to...
"Yea Sam I'm almost there."
"Good hurry up I'm on my way it doesn't sound good, Seth called me and I keep hearing Sarah I don't think she realizes how to control anyhing yet otherwise she wuldn't be sending us random thoughts." I panicked at the thought of Sam getting involved.
"Sam, stay where you are they are venemous and apparently out of control."
"I'm already here don't worry I will be fine..."
"SAM, no!" It was too late I couldn't reach him anymore what the hell happened? "Leah, Seth?" Goddamn it why weren't they answering me? Sarah's voice rang out once more in my mind in Sam's absence.
“I don’t want to hurt you- don’t make me do this.” The snarl that echoed through my mind was feral and terrifying as images from my daughters mind filled mine. Jake was challenging her Alpha status. I felt her fury as she unleashed an alpha command on him. I could hear her silent thoughts as the wolf in her took over more and more .She was going to attack him. My heart leapt into my throat as I pushed myself further. We were so close to the house now.
Nessie looked at me in confusion as I blew past her phasing out of my clothes I screamed in my mind, “Sarah no! Don't touch your brother. And for the love of god don't bite Uncle Sam, I will be right there...” All that I heard in response was a growl of anger as I leapt through the living room window of Carlisle and Esme’s house hoping that I wasn’t too late.
