Scene set: 1:32 in the morning. Luffy is sitting on the deck of the S.S. Merry Go staring out at the sky. Nami, for some odd reason, stumbles onto the deck also, sneaks up and is about 3 feet away from him when our story starts.
"Luffy?" Nami says. Luffy jumps slightly, turns toward her, says,
"Oh, it's you. What are you doing out here so late?"
"I could ask you the same question. May I?" she answers, and motions toward the spot beside Luffy.
Nami takes a seat beside him, and decides to answer his question.
"I could'nt sleep. Decided to come up here for a little fresh air. You?"
"Oh, I just had too much on my mind to sleep. I'm thinking about the pirates we've got past. I keep wondering if they're not really out, just down for the count."
"My thoughts exactly."
All is quiet for a couple of seconds except for the sound of the ocean. Nami mutters,
"You sure are a strange individual."
Luffy looks at her. "Is that all you wanted to tell me?"
Without hesitating, Nami leans over to Luffy and kisses his lips. She draws back, looking a little surprised. "I don't know why I did that,"
"It's okay. I've actually been waiting for that for a long time."
Luffy laughs softly and puts his arms around Nami's shoulders.
"There's a reason I chose you as navigator for my crew."
"And what is that?"
"I sensed that you had a rough past. I knew that you could take it easier with me than with anybody else or if you stayed alone."
"What does that have to do with this?"
"Not really sure. Something just told me to stick with you."
"Again, my thoughts exactly."
Nami rested her head on his shoulder. Nami felt safe there with Luffy. Now that she thought about it, she had always felt safe with Luffy. Perhaps she was more than navigator to this crew...
"Sanji's going to be awfully mad if he finds out that I kissed you."
Luffy whispers, "I won't tell," and takes Nami's hand, interlacing their fingers, and lays his head on top of hers. "I won't tell," he whispers again.
(A Bit Short, Sorry!)
