What a surprise Cher!
Hi guys, I managed to watch the movie this morning and once again, I was blewn away by the film and here is my review on the film.
So, the story is basically taking place 8 years after the events of the first film that came out a decade ago. Sadly to say, Donna has passed away prior to the events of this film and Sophie opens up a hotel and in honour of her mother. She names the hotel after her!
Interestingly, the film also sets as a prequel because the majority of the film are shown in flashback showing a young Donna in 1979 and how she meets Sam, Harry and Bill. In an ironic twist, both mother and daughter have a couple of similarities that shared, like being pregnant on the very same location! Unlike Sophie, Donna does not know who the father, leading to the events of the first film.
Once again, Lily James enchanted us with her singing, I heard her sing at the ending credits of Disney's 2015 live-action reboot, Cinderella. She played the young Donna very convincingly and I am very glad that both her singing and acting improves significantly!
I have very similar opinions on Amanda Seyfried, who played Sophie. Unfortunately, her screen-time is slightly reduce by 90% until the ending where we get to see her more!
As for Cher, I was really surprise she could take on her rendition of 'Fernando'. I absolutely adore the rock and roll quality as presented in her singing voice, she nailed it perfectly!
Overall, I must give a round of applause for the other casts who reprise their respective roles, including the new cast themselves!
As an ABBA fan, several of the songs are feature from the previous film as well as the Stage Version of Mamma Mia! Others are also popular ABBA songs that were not feature in both the stage and the first film.
The film makes want to go to both Greece and Croatia, it's stunning!
Here I Go Again!
I hope that you guys go and see the film, especially for all ABBA fans.
