Fruits Basket.

Fruits Basket is not your typical shoujo manga. There is still a lot of romance, but it focuses more on development within the relationships and self-growth than random kissing scenes every chapter (not that I dislike those, but it does become tiring when so few manga that features this also features much of a plot). This manga is not simply comedy/romance; there is an underlying plot that seeps it way through the entire story, with plenty of foreshadowing and character depth that many shoujo manga do not have. It's a shame the anime made it seem like your average shoujo anime, when in reality the manga is so much more than that.

definately We Were There/Bokura Ga Ita by Yuki Obata. ❤ the storyline was amazing and heart-breaking. one of the best romance shoujo mangas in existance in my personal opinion.
for those who've read the manga and loved it, i would actually also recommned the live action movies,which followed the manga's plotline better than the anime and had also brilliant acting. ❤

Tokyo Mew Mew. Hands down. It has a strong female lead, it's shoujo, there are catgirls and kemomimi ears, and there is magic! The picture I posted is of TMM.
