In 2006, Jackson attended several awards and honors. The first was the tribute held in May 2006 on MTV Japan, for the award of the Video Music Awards Japan '06. In this award, Jackson received the Legend Award - rarely designed to somebody - because of his being a male artist international best-selling in Japan, a legend of music. The press in general has made a huge emphasis on this event, due to the fact that it was the first public appearance since his acquittal Jackson made out of his seclusion in Bahrain.

Michael received in 2006, eight Guinness World Records, among the records were, "first artist to win more than one hundred million dollars in one year", "First artist to sell over 100 million albums outside the U.S.", "Artist more successful in the music world "among others, is still touted as the world's richest artist, with a fortune estimated at more than eight billion dollars.

Also in 2006, in November, Michael attended the World Music Awards. He received the Diamond Award, given to artists who have sold over 100 million records. During the award ceremony, Jackson also received the 9th week of Guinness certificate as due to the 104 (then) million copies sold of the album Thriller.
