There were the black loafers, the spangled glove, the red jacket, the aviator sunglasses, the black fedora, the epaulets, the tassels, the sparkles, the errant curl. Crazed fan or not, it’s hard (if not impossible) to argue that Michael Jackson’s influence on fashion has not been tremendous, pervasive, and, at times, downright irritating. He’d been making headlines for decades for his career moves and his curious personal life–and no doubt his recently sold-out tour–but with his passing on Thursday, we simply want to honor his dedication to the weird and the wild in the world of fashion,...

There's no doubt about it, music legend Michael Jackson was the King of Pop in more ways than one. The outfits worn since the young age of 9 did exactly what his well-deserved moniker suggests-- "pop". Since the late '70s, Jackson put as much as emphasis into his carefully selected wardrobe as he did into his music and dance moves. Even until his last days on earth, Jackson never failed to deliver an endless parade of "shine" to remind you he was the biggest pop star on the planet--there was always a careful mix of sequins, glitter, Lurex, studs, metallic added for standout style. Michael Jackson was more than the greatest musical legend of any recent generation; he was a fashion icon. He became known by one single accessory: the glove. And back in the day, that infamous red jacket was worn by many an older brother during their break-dancing phases. (And, if memories serve us, by Theodore Huxtable on The Cosby Show.) In later years, the military jackets and face masks would become his staples. Recently, Jackson became noted by the fashionable powers that be for his love of Balmain; the embellished jackets and grand price tags were just up his alley. He also signed on to do a fashion line with Christian Audigier, something that never came to fruition. So, as we mourn the loss of the King of Pop, let us look back at the King of Style.

MJ does it again!!! Balmain, one of Paris' most distinguishable (and expensive) fashion houses finds inspiration from none other than the King of Pop. The military jacket (which MJ rocked in the 80s) has been reinterpreted by the French fashion house. Michael even began rocking Balmain fashions- giving his seal of approval before his untimely departure. Michael is even seen wearing Balmain jackets in the rockumentary, "This Is It". This was a fashion move that was decided by MJ and his stylist Rushka Bergman. Now it appears that many celebrities are "rocking" Balmain as well. MJ wasn't called...

Phillip Bloch said "Michael Jackson was not influenced by fashion, fashion was influenced by him." From early on Jackson was described as a person with an utterly unique sense of style wearing fringed shirts, platform heels, and wide bell-bottom pants with a “Huggy Bear” inspired hat to top off his look. During Off The Wall, he would update his style wearing tuxedo jackets, pegged pants, thick white socks with black shiny loafers, instantly giving a classic look, new flair, and originality bringing in the start of his iconoclastic style. During the Thriller era, Jackson would become a fashion...

Say what you will about the King of Pop, the influence that Michael Jackson has had over the collective fashion conscious throughout his 50 years is undeniable. As the music legend dies, age 50, in Los Angeles, we take a look at his inimitable, legendary style.

As a fashion pioneer, Jackson was the man who gave new meaning to moonwalking, immortalised solitary, sparkly gloves, initiated the trophy jacket trend in the Eighties and was brave enough to couple dress with Madonna on the red carpet.
