Season 2 Nathan
Season 2 Nathan
Haley: Nathan, couples don't get married in high school. It's just... not normal.
Nathan: So, I'm not normal... and what I'm feeling is definitely not normal. I'm gonna be honest with you Haley, I don't ever want to be normal. Not with you. I'm serious.
Haley: I know you are.
Nathan: Ok, so I'll say it again. I could love you forever.
Haley: Nathan, so could I.
Nathan: So then why can't forever start today
Nathan: It's not about him. We're married now Haley. I'm never gonna hide that.
Nathan: Mr. and Mrs. James. You know that I'm emancipated and that I respect both of you very much and...
Jim: I think I know where you're going with this. Now if we adopt you, the making out with Haley is gonna have to stop, at least in public.
Nathan: Someday, this beach might wash away... the oceans may dry, the sun could dim, but on that day I'll still be loving you. Always and forever. I promise you, Haley.
Haley: I, Haley, take you Nathan to have and to hold from this day forward. In sickness and in health. For richer or poorer. For better or worse. I promise that I will love and cherish you, and will deny all things that come between us. I make this promise for eternity. A promise that I will keep forever. Until the end of time. 'Til death do us part.
Lucas: I think everybody knows that Nathan and I got off to a pretty sketchy start. Nathan, mutual hatred sound about right?
Nathan: Worse.
Lucas: Yeah. You see, then a funny thing happened; Haley. She showed me that you can find the good in everybody, if you just give them a chance. The benefit of the doubt. Sometimes, listen for what's in their hearts and that's what Haley did with Nathan. That's what we should do for them. So for all you skeptics out there, prepare to be surprised. So this is to my brother and my little sis... in-law and in love
Tim: Dude, smell me.
Nathan: Dude, kiss my ass.
Nathan: Haley, this bachelor party is more for Tim than it is for me okay? He's threatened by the fact that Lucas threw a reception so this is just his way of proving that he's still my best friend.
Haley: Yeah, what's next? Lap dances for world peace?
Mouth: Hey, look! It's Girls Gone Wild!
Nathan: (sees Haley on the moonroof) Haley?
Nathan: Officer, there's been a mistake.
Lucas: Yeah, he thought you were a stripper.
Tim: I can see your thong strap, Foxy Brown!
Lucas: Never mind.
Nathan: Yeah, take him.
(Tim is being taken away in the police car)
Tim: I've never been so horny!
Nathan: If I'd known you couldn't play any better than that, I wouldn't have brought it home. I want to apologize. All right? That was your money too.
Haley: Oh, it's not that Nathan. I totally overreacted. Partly because I love this gift, and I love you for getting it for me. But partly because we just can't be as careless as we used to be. Not if we wanna make this marriage work.
Nathan: I know, you're right and I don't know the first thing about managing money, it was just always around.
Haley: Yeah, well, at least you don't have that problem anymore.
Dan: Hey, I had a heart attack. I could've died.
Nathan: Dad, we both know that's never gonna happen. You can't jerk anybody's chains if you die.
Nathan: Haley, we can get a car anytime.
Haley: With what? Magic beans?
Mouth: His family, they move like almost every year.
Fergie: Witness protection?
Mouth: Uh uh, doctors without borders. They've been all over the world. His parents are opening up a private practice over here.
Nathan: Who we talking about?
Mouth: Felix, the new guy.
Lucas: You met him?
Nathan: Sort of, he was hitting on Haley. I thought you weren't supposed to be playing.
Lucas: Hey look, a little pick-up every now and then aint gonna kill me. Wanna run?
Nathan: I was on my way home. Got a tonne of studying to do and I gotta work tomorrow. One shot. Yes!
Lucas: How's work anyway huh? Boss not riding you too hard?
Nathan: No man, Keith's cool, a lot cooler than my dad ever was. It's kind of weird how my closest contact with him now is a cardboard cut out.
Lucas: Oh yeah, listen, I may have screwed things up for you, with Dan. He asked about you and I kinda mentioned the dealership gig.
Nathan: But you talked to him?
Lucas: Yeah. Look, your mom's having trouble getting him to rehab. So I figured maybe I'd give it a shot. If that's cool with you.
Nathan: Honestly, after everything you know about the guy are you sure you wanna let him in?
Lucas: (pause) You know, when Dan had his heart attack, I figured, well that's it. You know, we're never gonna know each other. But he didn't die. So it kinda makes me wonder if I don't take a chance now, will I regret it someday?
Nathan: You do what you need to do man. You should know who he is.
Mouth: Peyton, Haley. This is Felix.
Peyton: Hi.
Felix: How you doing?
Haley: Hi, nice to meet you.
Felix: Girl, you are totally fine.
Haley: Dude I'm totally married. Felix: Who's the father?
Nathan: Little close aren't you?
Felix: Oh, guess it's you.
Mouth: She's not pregnant but they are married.
Felix: Yeah yeah, I saw the ring. Guess she likes poor guys.
Peyton: This should be interesting.
Mouth: Yeah!
Mouth: So I showed him around and he seems pretty cool.
Keith: You know, Nathan, you're not gonna be detailing cars forever. I'm gonna find you something, you know, better.
Nathan: No, you know, it's cool. Whatever I have to do. I mean just treat me like any other employee who has no skills and whose last name isn't Scott.
Keith: OK, I will.
Nathan: Oh yeah, Keith? Uh I have a favour to ask.
Keith: Oh see now you are like any other employee.
Nathan: Well me and Haley have been saving up for a used car and uh well she found one she likes but I don't know anything about cars. So I was wondering if you could, check one out for me tomorrow?
Keith: I'd be happy to. Long as you don't spread that I don't know anything about cars around the dealership. Look I know this isn't exactly glamorous but you're doing a good job. I'm glad you're here. It's nice to be around family.
Nathan: Are you writing a song or are you planning on killing me?
Haley: Uh, officially I'm writing a new song, unofficially; I'd watch your back. By the way, I found a new car on the internet. It's great.
Nathan: Hm, define great.
Haley: Five hundred bucks great, which is actually thirty six bucks less than we've got in the wish dish so we could probably spring for a full tank of gas.
Nathan: Well you know, my wish was more along the lines of TeeVO, surround sound.
Haley: Well a car will get you off the bus before Keith fires you for being late. Will you just take a look at it? If it's a piece of junk we'll keep looking.
Nathan: OK.
Haley: Deal?
Nathan: Deal.
Haley: And um make sure the trunk's big enough to fit your body. Just in case.
Dan: How's your wife?
Nathan: Happier than yours.
Nathan: Sell a box of cookies.
Tim: Great. I get my crack waxed and you get cookies.
Massuese: Felix left this for you.
Nathan: You know, I really don't like this Felix kid.
Masseuse: OK! Full body treatment.
Tim: The special. We want the special.
Nathan: What exactly is the special?
Massuese: Oh the special is very nice. Who's first?
Tim: Me!
Massuese: OK I'll just peel back your sheet.
Tim: Oh yeah!
Nathan: So this is legitimate right? This is like a massage?
Tim: Dude, shut up! I am concentrating.
Nathan: Yeah, you know what, I really don't think I need to be here for this.
Massuese: Oh, it won't take long.
Nathan: Yeah, I'll bet.
Massuese: OK, one special full body wax!
Nathan: Well this is it. Massage and Spa.
Tim: What's the back say?
Nathan: Ask for the special.
Tim: It's the Happy Ending.
Nathan: Tim, come with me.
Tim: I'm in it to win it!
Nathan: Just say yes, Tim.
Tim: Dude, check out Part 2. Get it? Dude, the hole's #2.
Nathan: There is something wrong with you, you know that, right?
Tim: What? I didn't write the dare card. Hey, give me the camera and give me some leaves, all right?
Nathan: Good evening, Mr. & Mrs. Tree Hill Resident. We're selling these delicious cookies to raise money for Lady Leprechauns, an organization that empowers us girls to become strong, beautiful, independant women of tomorrow.
-------------------------------------------------Nathan: You know what they say Brooke, money can't buy love.
Brooke: Maybe so. My mom sure had a good run renting it for a while.
Nathan: You know what it's like to hit a game-winning shot. The whole crowd loves you. Everybody treats you like you're a star. I get to feel that every time I play. I mean, you know, you've felt it. Now it's Haley's turn. I mean, she's an incredible musician, Luke, and she's ready to give it a shot. So, if I go to camp now for 3 months, who knows where her head's gonna be? I just really want her to feel like, the thrill of the crowd. She deserves it.
Lucas: What about your future?
Nathan: I already know my future. It's with Haley.
Chris: Predictable sappy ballad. How's it feel?
Haley: Uh, great till ya just… dissed me!
Chris: No, look, you've got a good sound. And watching you tonight, I can definitely see us doing something together.
Haley: Really?
Chris: Yeah, I never joke about music. Here's my number. I got some studio time coming up.
Haley: Oh, wow Okay.(laughs) Oh! I just remembered THUD Magazine wanted me to do a…interview with them. It's probably gonna take a little while and...
Nathan: Nah, it's cool.
Haley: Okay.
Nathan: This is your night. Go, enjoy and I'll see you at home.
Haley: Are you sure?
Nathan: Yeah, I gotta work early tomorrow anyway.
Haley: Okay. I love you. Thanks. (she leaves)
Chris (to Nathan): You have any idea how many guys in the room wanna nail your wife right now? (laughs)
Haley: Hi!
Lucas: Ready for your big debut rock star?
Haley: Please don't remind me.
Nathan: She's ready. You know, didn't you once tell me that there was such a thing as over preparation?
Haley: Yeah, for a math midterm. This is like, avoiding public humiliation.
Lucas: Hales, you're gonna do great.
Haley: All right! Well go, whoever they are!
Nathan: Bobcats, Haley.
Haley: All right, well, I love bobcats. They're so cute.
Nathan: You're such a girl.
Haley: I know.
Lucas: Yeah, just thinking about my life. Basketball's such a big part of it. I don't wanna give it up.
Nathan: I felt the same way before I got married. Basketball was the most important thing to me, it was the only thing, but now Haley is. And I owe it to her to find out.
Lucas: And what about the risk of never feeling alive again?
Nathan: As opposed to never being alive again?
Lucas: So, how does it feel to be out there, you know, finally making it to the league?
Emeka Okafor: It was dream come true. It's what I was born to do. You guys play?
Lucas and Nathan: Yeah.
Lucas: We love it.
Emeka Okafor: You gotta bulk up a bit if you wanna play in the league.
Nathan: Yeah, he's skinny.
Emeka Okafor: (to Nathan) You too.
Nathan: Yeah, well he's got no left.
Lucas: You got no range.
Emeka Okafor: Please tell me you guys aren't teammates.
Lucas: Naw, it's worse. We're brothers.
Haley: Listen, I want you to know something. I don't have feelings for Chris, ok? The only reason I didn't tell you about the song is that I know you don't like him. I don't get you Nathan. You encourage me to do this music thing, and now that Chris is involved...
Nathan: You don't need that guy Haley.
Haley: He helps me. You don't need to feel threatened by that.
Nathan: You think I'm threatened?
Haley: I know it must be hard for you, seeing me have something like this, when you didn't get into basketball camp. But it's just not fair for you to take it out on me.
Nathan: I'll tell you what Haley. Go home and look in my top drawer. You'll see a letter from high flyers. Read that. Then talk to me about fair.
Nathan: You know, I'm having a hard time getting my head around how you could be pissed at me.
Haley: Because you deliberately did something I asked you not to.
Nathan: Whatever. I spent the whole night waiting for you... planning everything, dodging my parents, all while you were with Chris.
Haley: Can we leave him out of this, please?
Nathan: Why? Are you into him?
Haley: You know what? It really hurts me that you even have to ask me that.
Nathan: Not as much as it hurts me.
Haley: I told you this song isn't ready yet.
Nathan: I know, but you're too critical. Everyone's going to love it. I told the DJ to play it if you won. This is your night, Hales. I want it to be perfect.
(Chris part of the duet starts playing)
Nathan: Wait, is that... Is that Chris? You told me that I was in Charlotte when you recorded this. You were with Chris then, and you didn't tell me?
Haley: Nathan, I was going to tell you, I swear.
Nathan: Yeah, well you're a little late. Second time tonight.
Deb: The song is not over, Nathan.
Nathan: Yeah, well the dance is.
Chris: Can't you trust her? I mean, isn't that what this is about? You love her, you married her, but can you trust her? 'Cause if you can, you got nothing to worry about right? Come on man, I don't have a problem with you.
Nathan: You see, you do have a problem with me, a big problem! You could smile and act cool if you want to but the fact is man, I used to destroy guys like you, daily. It'd be a shame if something happened to this hand. You couldn't play that little guitar anymore, huh? Just like it'd be a shame if you were taking advantage of Haley. Don't cry rock star... it'd ruin your make-up.
Lucas: Is this my apology?
Nathan: No. This is Haley's apology. I don't owe you one. You know why? Because nobody wants to lose you, Luke. Not your mom. Not Keith. Not Haley. Not me.
Lucas: There's nothing wrong with my heart, Nate.
Nathan: Yeah? That's what you said after your car accident. You told me you didn't wanna be afraid to live your life.
Lucas: That's right.
Nathan: Well, I don't buy it Luke. I think there's something in your heart you're running from.
Lucas: What are you? Psychic?
Nathan: You can make jokes about it all you want but you know there's a girl you have feelings for.
Lucas: Nathan...
Nathan: Look me in the eye. Tell me I'm wrong. See? Now you can be mad at me all you want. You can say your heart's fine but until you tell this girl how you feel, your heart's gonna be flawed. You need to talk to her Luke.
Haley: Oh, nice, you guys finally decided to come home.
Nathan: I left you a note. We went for a jog.
Haley: To where? Atlanta?
Nathan: It's a long story. Actually, it's not a long story. I kinda told Haley that I slept with Taylor.
Lucas: Oh! Wow. Guess I'm not the only one who doesn't wanna go home.
Nathan: All right, Haley. We got married so quickly, we never really had the talk that most people have when they get engaged. About past relationships... sexual history.
Haley: Ah, that's probably because I can give you mine in under ten seconds, while yours is catalogued in the Library of Congress.
Chris: Looking for an autograph?
Nathan: No, actually, I was looking to kick your ass. But then I realized... why bother? There's nothing here for you. Haley sees what you really are: a pathetic poser. I just wanted to let you know.
Chris: You're wrong. You're just trying to silence that voice inside your head. Yeah, you know the one. It's growing louder every day. It's saying "We're drifting apart. I'm losing her."
Nathan: Actually, it's saying "shut this guy up, once and for all."
Chris: Okay, maybe I'm wrong? Maybe she does love you.
Nathan: She does.
Chris: What if that's not enough?
Haley: Michelle Branch likes my voice. She thinks I could be a singer. A real one. Chris said that she wants me on tour. I'm so far ahead with classes, and I'd be back in time for finals.
Nathan: So says the great Chris.
Haley: No, this isn't about him Nathan, this is about opportunity. I have my entire life been the reliable one, and the dependable one. And I have always done precisely what is expected of me.
Nathan: Until we got married.
Haley: Exactly. And then I finally did something for me, something that I wanted. And the world didn't end. And I have that chance again.
Nathan: If you leave me...
Haley: This is not the end for us. This is my shot to find out if I am good enough to have a life in music. Or if nights at Tric are all I get.
Nathan: And this has nothing to do with Chris?
Haley: No, absolutely not.
Nathan: Then why haven't you asked me to come with you? Did you kiss him?
Haley: Yes. I'm sorry, you have to believe me, that's not what this is about. Nathan...
Nathan: Haley, listen. If you want to, you should go. But if you do, we're done.
Lucas: It’s about time you pulled yourself together.
Nathan: Whatever. I’m only here because my Playstation broke.
Nathan: Some girl? She’s my wife, dad.
Dan: Really? Well someone may want to tell her that.
(Nathan punches Dan)
Dan: Nice punch, son. It’s good to see there’s still a man in there somewhere.
Lucas: (Turns up at Nathan's doorstep) Dude, you look like ass.
Nathan: You should smell me.
Lucas: You know, I haven't seen you around school lately. You mind if I come in?
Nathan: Actually, umm, now's not really a good time.
Lucas: You know man, I'm really missing Haley. She didn't even bother to call me. It must be harder for you.
Nathan: Yeah. It's 12 weeks, I'll be fine. We'll work it out when she gets back.
Lucas: I'm just concerned, man.
Nathan: Yeah, well don't be. Thanks
Ms. Hand: Okay, please tell me you are not drinking beer in my class.
Nathan: Technically, it's malt liquor...
Ms. Hand: Nathan!
Nathan: It's okay, I brought enough to share.
Ms. Hand: Come with me, please.
Nathan: That's a nice skirt, Ms. Hand. You know, if more teachers dressed like sluts, attendance in this place would skyrocket.
Lucas: Perfect. Nice work, jackhole.
Nathan: Hey, you were the one who was driving.
Lucas: Yeah. Either thank me or shut up.
Nathan: Whatever. I didn't ask you to take the fall.
Nathan: What happened?
Lucas: She's not coming.
Nathan: Wow. Even your own mom can't stand you.
Lucas: She still loves you, you know. Look. It sucks that she kissed Chris, but Haley married you. I kinda think that that wins out over some confused kiss.
Nathan: Maybe I was the confusing part for her.
Lucas: Nathan, Haley fell for you when you were a different guy, a lesser guy. Maybe you should remember the real Haley, even when she's lesser, too.
Lucas: What is so funny?
Nathan: You. Do you need me to connect the dots for you?
Lucas: I just need you to shut up.
Nathan: When I first met you, I figured the best way to hurt you was to take Haley away. Now she's gone, isn't she?
Lucas: Is it any wonder she left a stroke like you? Look at yourself. You're pathetic.
Nathan: Oh, I'm pathetic? You're chasing after a father who doesn't even want you, and I'm pathetic?
Lucas: Would you just let it go? Why are you so threatened by that? Afraid Daddy will like me more than you?
Nathan: You mean, kind of how he liked my mom better than yours?
Lucas: No. I mean kinda like how your wife likes Chris better than you.
Nathan: So you want me to tell you something about myself? I don't have anything to say. Even if I did, ... you'd be wrong to believe me. Trust is a lie. Nobody ever knows anyone.
Brooke: Nate, thank you for coming.
Nathan: Whatever, I just ran out of alcohol.
Lucas: (sees Nathan painting in pink over Haley's portrait) Nathan? What are you doin'?
Nathan: Haley hates pink.
(Nathan rolls the paint harder )
Lucas: Look Nate, Haley's my best friend. I know it's not the same but I get what you're going through.
Lucas: (looks puzzled as Nathan hangs a picture of a clown over the potrait he was just painting over.) A clown.
Nathan: Yeah, they creep her out.
Nathan: Voicemail. I hope you still don't got that crap.
Nathan: What are you doing here?
Deb: Making sure you find the kind of happiness I barely remember. Go get Haley. She's your wife.
Nathan: True love. That's a good one. Don't do it Keith, just get out while you can! It's all a lie! There's no such thing as forever.
Dan: What the hell are you doing? This is a church, for God's sake!
Nathan: Oh, shut your hole, you freaking hypocrite. I know what you did.
Deb: Nathan, it's okay. Let us help you.
Nathan: Do what?
Deb: Be happy again.
Nathan: Happy? You don't even know how to be happy, Mom. Haley and I never stood a chance with you.
Deb: Is that what you think?
Nathan: (to Dan) You hired Chris, too?
Dan: Don't make me knock you out, son.
Nathan: Screw you, you sick son of a bitch.
Haley: Nathan. Oh, my god. What are you doing here?
Nathan: I wanted to see you. I needed to see you.
Haley: I'm so glad you did. I miss you.
Nathan: Listen, I asked you to marry me because I want to spend my life with you. I still want that. I love you Haley.
Haley: I love you too.
Nathan: So I came here for you, and I'll be here no matter what. I'll go with you on the tour. I'll wait for you. Whatever you want me to do. I'm not giving up on us. I'm not giving up on our marriage.
Haley: Whoa. I don't know what to say. (Nathan looks over at photos of Chris( No, Chris and I aren't together. I promise you, it's never been about that.
Nathan: (Looks at Haley's hand) You're not wearing your ring.
Haley: I love you. I do. But i feel like maybe we rushed things a little bit... Maybe I rushed things a little bit. We're son you, and I wasn't ready for all this. You, and the music, and... now it's all happening at once, and it's really hard. I don't know if I can be who you need me to be.
Nathan: All I want you to be is my wife. Is that too much to ask?
Nathan: What happened to Florida?
Taylor: Oh, Florida's still there. I'm just not in it.
Nathan: I can't do this.
Taylor: Because of Haley?
Nathan: No. Because of me.
Taylor: I guess my phone call worked. Are you staying the night?
Nathan: I don't know. I haven't thought that far ahead.
Nathan: (In the emergency room) Promise me..
Lucas: Anything.
Nathan: Don't call Haley.
Cooper: Nathan, you reduce your speed and you come in.
Nathan: You know what I need, Coop? Some of that 200 mile an hour therapy you were talking about.
Cooper: Nathan?
Nathan: Nobody goes past seven on the tach, right? Let's see about eight.
Cooper: No, too fast. Nathan!
Nathan: You were right, Coop. This feels pretty damn good. (Nathan has flashbacks of his relationship with Haley right before crashing his car into the wall.)
Cooper: (referring to Haley) What's wrong with her? What'd you marry, a blind girl? (Nathan sighs) Aw man... It's your gear isn't it? Okay, drop your shorts. Let's have a look.
Nathan: Cooper...
Cooper: Come on, let's see it.
Nathan: Cooper, what are you doing here, man?
Cooper: Perspective, nephew. I'm here to adjust yours.
Cooper: You know, when my wife left, I was a mess.
Nathan: You saying you're not still a mess? I mean, you should've been. Carrie was really hot.
Cooper: Yeah, well, they usually are when they're supermodels. And by the way, shut up. I had to let it all go, you know... The feeling that I wasn't good enough for Carrie, how much I resented the fact that she wanted things besides me. I mean, it wasn't fair to her. Hell, I wasn't going to give up racing for her.
Nathan: I would've. I mean given up basketball for Haley. I kinda did.
Cooper: Well you think, maybe that's the reason she left? I mean, when you met her, would you have given it up then?
Nathan: No, probably not.
Cooper: Maybe you're not the person she fell in love with anymore, man. Maybe she's not the person you thought she was. Look, I don't say this to hurt you, Nate, but... it's just people change, you know?
Nathan: So, after she left you... I mean, was there a day when it felt better?
Cooper: Sure, followed by a day when it felt worse. I mean, that's just the way it goes. But I got to tell you, you'd be amazed at how therapeutic 200 miles an hour can be.
Nathan: I'll bet, man.
Cooper: Look Nate... love is a pretty great thing man. Maybe it's the greatest thing. But it's got to be true love, for the both of you.
Nathan: What if it was? What if it still is?
Cooper: If it still is, man, you fight like hell for it. But the harder question is "what if it wasn't?" Trust me, that one's a bitch.
Deb: Nathan, I...
Nathan: I love you Mom. I mean that. And I know I've been a jerk lately to you, to everybody else. I'm sorry.
Deb: You've been hurting.
Nathan: It doesn't matter. I know you're just trying to be a good mother.
Deb: I haven't been a good mother Nathan. But that's going to change now.
Nathan: What are you talking about?
Deb: I need to be stronger for you, and for myself. So while you're healing from this, I'm healing too. I promise you.
Nathan: Whatever it is, I got your back. Do you ever wonder what life would be like, if Dan married Karen and just stayed out of our lives?
Deb: All the time. Why?
(Door opens and Dan enters)
Dan: Glad to see you're awake, son.
Nathan: Wanna hear something really messed up, though? I thought I died, and went to heaven.
Lucas: No kidding.
Nathan: Yeah. Only heaven was a place where Dan chose your mom over mine. And Haley was tone deaf. Turns out it was only a dream. I did kick your ass in one-on-one though.
Lucas: Well, I guess it was a dream then, huh?
Deb: You know you two are gonna end up married someday. (looking at Haley and Nathan)
Nathan: Stop it. We've known each other forever. We're just friends.
Deb: Hmmm good place to start.
Nathan: Keep dreaming.
Nathan: Don't come home, Haley.
Haley: Nathan, I have to come home.
Nathan: No. You don't. You have to go after your dream, just like I have to go after mine. Cause if we don't, then we're just gonna end up regretting it. And we're gonna end up resenting each other.
Haley: Nathan, I wouldn't...
Nathan: No, we don't know that. Nobody knows what's gonna happen. Whatever choice you make today is gonna affect the rest of your life. So, don't come home, Haley... cause I don't want you to.
Haley: You and Brooke Davis. Captain of the Cheersluts! That's hard to picture.
Nathan: Yea, I'd say hard's the right word.
Nathan: Daddy teach you how to drive?
Lucas: Yeah, he sends his love. Now get out of my way, loser.
Nathan: Douglas Adams once wrote, "He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream, and he sometimes wondered whose it was, and whether they were enjoying it."
Dan: Listen to me. It's my fault you emancipated yourself. I know that. It's my fault your mother's in rehab. Somewhere along the line, I started hurting the people closest to me, and I haven't figured out how to stop.
Nathan: You wanna stop being a dick Dad, then just do it.
Dan: I want to. I figured if Lucas moved in, I'd be my best self. The funny thing is, he's a better man than I'll ever be. All these years I've been the bad guy for abandoning him. It seems I actually did him and Karen a favor.
Peyton: I've been trying to believe the best in people lately, you know? Like hoping Nikki will just back off, or that Jake's lawyers will find a way to get him out. So I'd to believe that even someone as assy as your dad could be different if he really wanted to.
Nathan: Yeah, but you know all the crap he's pulled in the past. I mean, doesn't it sounds crazy to try to be a family again?
Peyton: I'm... I'm probably not the right person to ask.
Nathan: I mean, I wanna know what you think. Tell me.
Peyton: I would give anything to have one more day with my mom and dad together.
Nathan: What happened with Haley and Chris is not your fault. You love music, Peyton. Don't back away from your dreams. Or you could end up so bitter you just destroy all the people around you.
Brooke: What's wrong with you?
Nathan: Nothing, nothing. I just... You were in this weird dream I had during surgery.
Brooke: Yeah, and...
Nathan: And, ah, we were kinda showering together.
Brooke: Don't be embarassed, everybody has that dream about me. (to Tim) Don't have the dream now, Tim!
Nathan: Welcome home. Bill. Bill. Final notice. Way final notice. You ever robbed a bank, Luke?
Lucas: Hey, you got friends. We’ll help.
Nathan: Yeah, that sounds great. All I need is money for these bills and a hundred thousand dollars to pay the hospital.
Lucas: Wow, would've been cheaper if you'd just hit the brakes, huh? What happened out there, Nathan?
Nathan: Rig up a dart board with Chris' face on it and I'm in.
Nathan: Whitey thinks he can get me back into High Flyers.
Dan: As much as I love hearing you talk about basketball again, I really don't think camp is a smart play for you right now.
Nathan: Dad, it's High Flyers.
Dan: Exactly my point. You're injured Nathan. You don't want the scouts to see you like that. Plus, there's your mother to consider. Listen, I don't like to burden you with these things, but you're a man, so I'm gonna be honest with you. Your mother's pill addiction started when you moved out. Now in no way does that mean you're to blame, cause you're not. But she's gonna be vulnerable when she comes home, and she's gonna need you more than ever.
Whitey: (In his office.) Come in, Nathan.
Nathan: How'd you know it was me?
Whitey: I could smell the confusion. Pause. That was a joke, by the way. Nobody ever laughs at my jokes.
Nathan: That's cos they're not funny, Coach.
Whitey: A little bird told me you were moving back home.
Nathan: That little bird’s name Lucas?
Whitey: He cares about you, and so do I. You’ve come quite a distance this year. I think moving out of that house has been good for you.
Nathan: Coach, look at me. I’m a mess.
Whitey: Nah, you’re just a little bit broken. But it's nothing that a summer at High Flyers couldn't fix.
Nathan: Could have fixed.
Whitey: Still can. Dan Scott's not the only one with pull in this town. The only thing that held you back as a player last season was heart. Now, I've watched that change over the past year, and I've been so proud of you. That camp has world-class trainers. They can mend the physical part. I have a hunch, once that happens, the game will heal your heart.
Nathan: I dreamt about it, in the hospital, about going to that camp. But I don't know. My mom's coming home soon. I gotta think about it.
Whitey: Promise me you'll do that.
Lucas: Look, I know you don’t wanna hear this, but if you blow off this English final, you’re not gonna even be eligible to shoot the… ‘weak-ass jump shots’. It’s about loss. I can help you if you want.
Nathan: You don’t think I can write about loss?
Nathan: As far as I'm concerned, Shaw was a punk, 'cause you know what? Tragedies happen. What are you gonna do? Give up? Quit? No. I realize now that when your heart breaks, you gotta fight like hell to make sure you're still alive. Because you are... and that pain you feel, it's life. The confusion and fear, that's there to remind you that somewhere out there is something better... and that something is worth fighting for.
Nathan: And losing your way on the journey is unfortunate, but losing your reason for the journey is a fate more cruel.
Nathan: This is us at the beginning of the year. You were never happier.
Peyton: You were never hornier.
