"The Walk" Did Mark Harmon sustain permanent damage to his knees when he played American football?

I ask because he seems to 'throw' his knees if you watch long shots of him walking to camera closely. I've suffered with knee problems for 30+ years and before I had surgery one of my knees moved in the same way (but I never played American football - rowing and horse riding did for mine!)
