Bit of Background
Ah, Nintendo, one of my favorite memories of childhood. If you've read my articles then you know that I obsess over EVERYTHING and video games is one of them. RPG's especially because a good story that you get to play in is just awesome and nintendo never let me down in the past. But has it now?

First impressions:
The N64 was my first encounter with nintendo, and how could I not love it when you have games like mario 64, mario party 2 and 3, donkey kong 64, kirby and the crystal shards, starfox, yoshi stories, zelda and so many more. Nintendo was looking good with countless good games. Then the gamecube came out. Although it wasn't exactly revolutionary, it's games were. Now I'm not saying that they were the best ever and I have many complaints about many of the games and console features but I'm focusing on the positives.

The good sequels:
The gamecube gave us seaquels to all our favorite childhood games and did they disappoint me? Not at all, paper mario and the thousand year door and starfox adventures were my two favorite sequels. Paper mario was just awesome and starfox took a new angle focusing more on the story and ADVENTURE than the shooting and dog fighting which I personally liked. Then Assault came out taking another new perspective and I didn't like it as much as adventures but it still had it's great and repayable qualities and still provided hours and hours of fun. We had other good sequels to that I won't go into to much detail or any for that matter but one thing that disappointed me was no crystal shards sequel. One was planned to be released and then canceled but there have been rumors it will appear on the wii.

The wii letdowns:

Now not all things about the wii were a letdown, in fact there were a lot of good things, just not as many good things as previous consoles had. I thought the gamecube was a letdown BUT looking back on the awesome games it had, it was actually one of my favorites. The games were good and that's all that really matters. The wii first of all was not HD like the other consoles, not a huge deal I guess since it's the games that matter but the sequels I was anticipating were no more. Starfox and kirby seemed to have died and the new paper mario called super paper mario was the greatest insult to the paper mario franchise. Already my three favorite series terminated. Yoshi and donkey kong were no where to be seen since the N64, not good ones anyway, and it seemed like nintendo just wasn't doing it for me. The internet and wii speak feature were good ideas but never used enough and the wiiware games are just pitiful. They put all the old games for download but I have those games already, I don't want to play old awesome games I want new stuff.

Redeeming stuff:

Well despite all the bad stuff I have to say, it did have it's games. Zelda and Mario stay with their roots and still stay awesome adding new stuff each time to keep it exciting. I can't wait for the new 2010 zelda game with real wii graphics since the twilight princess was limited to gamecube graphics and it would be better in HD but it's still awesome anyway. Super mario galaxy remains cool and we even get some nice new titles like okami. Now I know that was a PS2 game originally but it really was meant for the wii and ds. We go tales a symphonia 2, a decent sequel but corny at times, still good though, and we get the motion games with wii motion controls which are sometimes fun and sometimes a bore. Exciting future titles have been announced including the ongoing rumored starfox and kirby games and a wii HD is also rumored and if the wii HD came out I'd officially like it more than the 360, right now they're tied.

PS3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. Wii

This competition has been going on forever and people say this well most people anyway that the wii is good for casual gamers and the other two are good for serious players. That is true but not completely, the 360 can be for csual players too and can be family friendly and the wii can be a serious gamers system. The difference is a lot. The 360 feels like you're always connected and it's HD graphics and online features make it a must for shooter fans. Same goes for the PS3. But for people into RPG's like me who still play a lot the wii and 360 have the same to offer. They both have great Rpg'. The 360 is in HD which I have to admit does look cool but it's the games that matter for me and both do a good job but personally I play my wii more than my 360. New super mario bros. was just awesome. Please leave your thoughts on this and I'd love to discuss it.

Side features:

Well all consoles have side features now with online capability a you can now watch videos, download music and all this other stuff and so which system does the best job? Well first of all I find myself never using most of these features. The 360's video streaming and downloading I don't use. The wiiware and internet channels aren't worth it and the PS3 it's the same thing. I just don't use them. NOW the PS3 can play Bluray dvd's which I have to admit was a nice feature but on the other hand if I had an HDTV like I did what are the odds I'll already have a bluray dvd player. Pretty high, it was the same deal when the PS2 could play regular dvd's it just didn't make sense. Game consoles are for just that GAMES!Don't go messing things up. Online capability was nice keep that but don't add useless video and streaming features. Now I guess if you're really into you won't see these as pointless but the PS3 cost hundreds and that's too much to pay when all I want is a system to play some awesome games on and not all that extra stuff that costs so much.

Please leave your comments as I've barely covered anything but I would love to discuss these things.
