BLP Triangle: My Opinion
Before I start I just want to clarify that I love all three characters. I do not put the blame on any one particular character. I think that each of them are at fault at some point. If you do not like my opinion or disagree with me please don’t argue just don’t read. Thanks.

Season 1
We all know that Lucas likes Peyton it is shown from the very beginning, but she seems not interested in him at all. She is an infatuation to him because face it you can’t like someone you don’t know. He doesn’t know Brooke yet because she wasn’t in the pilot. We see Peyton/Lucas relationship build both seem interested in the other, but neither one of them is saying anything. Brooke clearly states that she knows that Peyton likes Lucas. She says this several times, but Peyton denies it. At the game she says that Peyton can have a courtesy hold on Lucas for the weekend but after that he is fair game. Brooke continues to flirt and make it known that she likes Lucas but he keeps pursuing Peyton. The party at Dan’s house is the start of the triangle in my opinion. Brooke tries to plot to get Peyton/Nathan back together so that Peyton would not go after Lucas. Clearly she sees that Lucas/Peyton like each other or she wouldn’t have bothered trying to keep them apart. Once Peyton snaps at Brooke for scheming Brooke gets mad because it proves that Peyton likes Lucas. Then she does the whole truth/dare thing and the look on Lucas’ face after Peyton kisses him and runs off shows that he isn’t too fond of Brooke at this point. He wants to be with Peyton. We know how Peyton gets scared and runs and Lucas is confused. The next episode where Brooke/Peyton go to the college party is where the drama begins. Lucas drops what he is doing the second Brooke calls and comes to Peyton’s rescue. You can see how upset/worried he is as he runs to find the guy and punches him as Brooke watches. He stays to make sure that Peyton is okay because he would worry too much if he went home. Brooke says something like you came to the rescue even after what happened at Dan’s house blah blah another clear sign that Brooke can tell that Lucas is into Peyton. Brooke sees this and I think on the inside she wants someone to feel that way about her. He tells Brooke to call him if she needs anything when he drops her off at her car, and I think Brooke takes that the wrong way. I think Lucas is being honest and a good guy I don’t think at this point he wants to pursue Brooke. I think the moment everything changed was when Brooke showed up at the Rivercourt. Brooke was making the effort that Peyton never did, and I think that Lucas begins to like her in the moment. Peyton gets jealous when Brooke/Lucas go on their date and Brooke comes back and brags about kissing Lucas and Peyton is stunned. Brooke should have known that Peyton was into Lucas even if she didn’t admit it because Peyton’s face was upset. They have been friends for a long time. Peyton went to Lucas’ house that night and told him that she wanted to be with him only to find Brooke there. The way Lucas/Peyton were looking at each other Brooke should have gotten the hint. There was a lot more emotion in that scene then Peyton returning a CD. Peyton should have professed her feelings to Brooke when Brooke asked her the next day because she clearly asked her if she was okay with Brooke/Lucas dating and Peyton said it was fine and then Lucas was fair game and Brooke was very graceful about the whole situation. Peyton continues to struggle with Lucas/Brooke new relationship and anytime they are together Peyton runs which boils down to the scene at Karen’s Café. Brooke runs after Peyton and Peyton says I thought I was okay with this but I am not and Brooke was a little naïve thinking that Peyton was talking about being a third wheel, but Peyton agreed so Brooke didn’t know otherwise. Lucas shouldn’t have pretended to like Brooke if he didn’t. I mean I would have been mad too if I was meeting my boyfriend and I saw him with my best friend and her dad sitting there laughing and chatting. Lucas/Peyton still managed to maintain their friendship and hang out causing some drama for Brooke which should have been another sign they liked each other. Finding out about Peyton’s dad and Lucas/Peyton going on a road trip was emotional for both of them. Peyton was scared because she thought that her dad was dead and Lucas didn’t want Peyton to have to suffer another loss in her life. I think that Brooke was an extremely good friend allowing Lucas to go with Peyton. They got caught up in their emotions and kissed. Now I know that most people want to blame this part on Peyton because Lucas stopped it, but he was def. smiling while they were kissing and he took Peyton’s jacket and shirt off. He was the one that was kissing down her body. It may have in fact been a moment of weakness but extremely a crappy move on both accounts considering Brooke was being such a good friend to both of them. They should have told her what had happened as soon as they got home especially considering the talk they had in the car about the kiss meaning something. Brooke deserved to know and they should have thought about Brooke beforehand but they shouldn’t have punished/hurt Brooke for their stupidity. Then Lucas taking off the necklace that Brooke bought him and telling Peyton that he was hiding with Brooke and he wanted to be with her was very inconsiderate and irresponsible. He should have broken up with Brooke first. He shouldn’t have put Peyton in the position to choose. Peyton should have also waited until Brooke/Lucas broke up considering she was the reason they were dating. One thing that killed me about the triangle was the part where Lucas/Peyton were going to tell Brooke together. Seriously were they really that naïve? What exactly would they have said, “I know I am your boyfriend and I know that Peyton is your best friend but we like each other and want to be together and we don’t want to hurt you but I hope you can understand this and accept this.” How did they think she was going to react to find out that her boyfriend and best friend were sneaking around behind her back and now they were telling her together that they wanted to be together. Brooke told Peyton that she was falling hard for Lucas and Peyton decided she didn’t want to tell Brooke anymore because she couldn’t do that to Brooke but the next day she was making-out with him in the library. I never understood that either. She should have broken it off that night that Brooke told her she was falling hard for Lucas. Then the accident happened and things got twisted and out-of-control. Peyton told Haley she was in-love with Lucas, and Brooke was constantly by Lucas’ side. Lucas def. screwed up big time because both girls really cared about him and he managed to destroy their friendship and his relationship with both of them. I do think that Peyton was the bigger person and did the right thing breaking it off with Lucas. I know that it was terrible sneaking behind her best friends’ back with her boyfriend, but Peyton gave up a boy that she was in-love with because she didn’t want to hurt Brooke. You have to admit that was pretty selfless. I wouldn’t have done it. Love is a wonderful thing whether it under good/bad circumstances. It wasn’t the right time for them to be together, but it was kind of too late for that considering they managed to break Brooke’s heart in the process of their faults.
Point 1-Brooke should have known that Lucas/Peyton liked each other.
Point 2- Peyton should have told Brooke that she liked Lucas and stopped being in denial.
Point 3-Lucas shouldn’t have put Brooke/Peyton in that situation he should have made up his mind which girl he liked and not strung two people into his insecurities.

Season 2-
This season wasn’t really a big season for the triangle but Lucas did manage to get to know Brooke better. Season 1 we were got to see Lucas/Peyton friendship build in the beginning and we didn’t really get to see that with Lucas/Brooke. In season 2 you got to watch their friendship build and turn into a beautiful one. Lucas/Peyton kind of fell out of touch with each other and I think that had a lot to do with the fact that they were in-love with each other and they couldn’t be together, and it was too hard to be around each other. Whether or not Nathan was talking about Brooke/Peyton when he said there is a girl in your heart Lucas chose Brooke. He continued to get to know her and what a wonderful person she was and I really believe he started to genuinely have feelings for her. I think that Lucas still really cared about Peyton, and I think when he found that picture of Jake/Jenny in Peyton’s room he was hurt and he knew that Peyton didn’t want him to be that guy for her anymore, and he called Jake to help her out. The end of this season was kind of confusing because we discover a lot of things. Lucas kept Peyton’s stuff, but he wanted to be with Brooke. I know he told her that he kept that stuff to remind him of what a mistake he made with her but that is BS. You do not keep sentimental things to remind yourself of your mistakes. He did confess that he wanted to be with Brooke and I think he was honest and sincere. Then he goes to Peyton’s house and stay the night over there and he tells Peyton about Brooke and she talks to him about Jake. Then Lucas says “it is always going to be there isn’t it? You and Me” and Peyton agrees. He could have meant lots of different things by that statement but it was really confusing because it still makes you wonder which girl he actually wants.

Season 3
We don’t get to see what happens over the summer but it is assumed that Lucas/Peyton have become best friends again. As soon as Brooke comes back into town Lucas throws himself into trying to convince Brooke “he is the guy for her” Peyton is pro-BL and Peyton thinks that Brooke shouldn’t toy with Lucas heart. Brooke knows that Lucas has genuine feelings for her at this point he has made it painfully obvious. Brooke sleeps with Chris Keller fully knowing that Lucas is in-love with her. Isn’t that kind of the same thing Peyton/Lucas did to Brooke? I know that Brooke/Lucas weren’t officially dating, but Brooke knew how much Lucas liked her and she still slept with him. That makes her just as guilty as Peyton/Lucas were. Lucas clearly said that he didn’t have feelings for Brooke in season 1 triangle thing but he had feelings for her now and she knew that and Brooke slept with Chris anyways. I think Brooke was at-fault at this point because she was toying with Lucas. He forgave her which is more than she did with him and Lucas/Peyton didn’t sleep together. They were officially together and both happy. Some people say that Lucas still had feelings for Peyton because the day Lucas/Brooke got back together he went with Peyton to visit Ellie which I disagree with. Lucas made a promise to a friend, and he kept it. Lucas is a good guy at heart and he always keeps his word. Lucas did say he liked being the guy for Peyton that saves her but I honestly feel like he meant that in a platonic way. He knows that Peyton doesn’t have many people in her life that she can count on and he wants to be a person that she can. You don’t really see that much of Lucas/Peyton after Ellie comes back but Lucas/Brooke are doing great. They had a beautiful relationship other than Brooke’s occasional insecurities. Ellie/Peyton have the love talk and Peyton admits that she had something with someone and let him go which she views as a mistake. We later find out that she was talking about Lucas, but Lucas/Brooke have no idea. Ellie dies and Peyton goes to the Sparkle Classic and gets roomed with Lucas by accident. No one was at fault there because neither of them knew. Peyton asked Lucas if everything is going to be okay and he reassures her another strictly platonic moment. The next morning she says that he is always saving her and Brooke walks in and finds Lucas sitting on the edge of the bed and thinks that something happened. Lucas lied and said he slept on the floor but you could tell that he just didn’t want to start any trouble because he was extremely happy to see Brooke. Lucas tells Brooke that Peyton needs both of them and he is right. Peyton pushes Lucas away because it is hard on Brooke which is a noble thing to do considering he is only one that seems to care about what is going on in her life. The school shooting happens and Lucas comes to Peyton’s rescue once again. Now just to be clear I am a huge Leyton fan but I loved Brucas also. I really don’t like to get into debates about it because I think it is kind of childish and stupid because it doesn’t matter which couple you ship because Mark is going to have last say anyways. The school shooting episode is my ALL time favorite episode of OTH because of the emotions. Brooke tells Lucas that a shot went off and she lost Peyton and Lucas looks worried/upset but has no intention of going back into the school until Nathan runs to go back in. Nathan continues to go and Lucas being the good guy he is doesn’t want Nathan to go alone. Once Lucas get inside the school Lucas sees blood and immediately thinks it is Peyton and wants to find her as Nathan goes to the tutor center for Haley. Lucas finds Peyton in the library bloody and scared and springs into actions. The emotions on both of their faces in this episode are priceless and genuine. Lucas promises that he isn’t going to leave and Peyton is scared for her life. Lucas comforts her the best way he can but you can tell that he is just as scared as she is. Brooke is still stuck in school not knowing what is going on worried for both of their safety. Peyton starts to get tired and Lucas makes her tell him a story. Peyton is explaining how this day is going to change their lives forever. Lucas tells Peyton that it is a bullet in her leg and that he has to get her out of there but he promises that nothing is going to happen to her. She tells him she loves him and kisses him. A lot of people also blame this on Peyton too because Lucas didn’t know that Peyton was going to kiss him, but if you watch closely his lips move and kiss her back(If you watched season 5 you saw Nanny Carrie kiss Nathan. His lips never moved as she kissed him he was also taken by surprise but you can clearly tell he didn’t want the kiss). This scene doesn’t really bother me because I feel like if I thought I was going to die I would probably tell the person that took care of me I loved them and kissed them too. I gave both of them a free pass for this scene however if the kiss didn’t mean anything which they both said they should have just told Brooke because I really feel like she would have understood. This is the start of Brooke/Lucas relationship falling apart. After Keith died I feel like a little of Lucas died as well, and he started to pull away from Brooke. The library scene of the party that was at the school was a turning point I think for the triangle. Lucas confronts Peyton on what happened and she told him it didn’t mean anything and he agreed and he told her that he loved her but he was in-love with Brooke. Peyton was leaving and she told Lucas to let Brooke help him out with this(the same thing Lucas did in season 2 with Jake) and Lucas questioned whether or not Brooke had said something and Peyton said no but she KNEW how he was because he was like her and that Brooke gave her heart to him and he should give his back to her. That was a turning point because Peyton was telling Lucas that she didn’t think that Lucas had given his heart to Brooke and he didn’t deny it he just sat there contemplating what Peyton had just said. Brooke goes to Peyton’s house and tells her that Lucas loves her too and Peyton said that Lucas was in-love with and she didn’t have anything to worry about. Brooke was a little insensitive about the whole situation considering her best friend was just shot and almost died, but anyways Lucas/Peyton never mentioned what happen again and continue to be friends. Lucas leaves on a road trip with Karen and Peyton goes to see Jake. Lucas/Brooke relationship continues to suffer because Lucas keeps shutting Brooke out. Jake hears Peyton say “I love you Lucas” in her sleep and she tries to deny it and pretend she doesn’t. She ends up coming home and Lucas comes home. Lucas is excited to see Brooke which is odd considering he didn’t call her one time while he was away. Brooke is starting to see that she is more independent than she thought. Peyton/Lucas do the I love you scene together and Peyton is extremely upset and confessing to Brooke that she thinks she still has feelings for Lucas. I think that Peyton shouldn’t have said that. I know that Peyton wanted to be honest, but she should have waited until Brooke/Lucas broke-up instead of trying to come between them again. The day of the wedding Peyton tries to use Brooke’s words against her which is really unfair. Brooke tells Lucas not to talk to Peyton but of course he does anyways. Peyton tells Brooke that she isn’t going to do anything about her feelings she just didn’t want to lie to Brooke which is understandable. Lucas accidently tells Brooke about the kiss and they have their huge blowout which in my opinion was a long time coming. Their relationship just wasn’t working because Lucas wouldn’t fully let Brooke in and he kept pulling away from her. One thing that I really didn’t like was the fact that Peyton asked Brooke if she was in-love with him. I know that was a turning point considering Brooke didn’t say that she was, but still.

Season 4
Brooke/Lucas/Peyton triangle again starting. Brooke/Lucas are on shaky terms. Lucas has no idea why Brooke/Peyton are fighting. Peyton comes to the hospital and Lucas hugs her with such passion and Brooke sees and avoids them. Lucas/Peyton hang out and Brooke walks in and wants to talk to Lucas alone. I think Lucas kind of picked up on the reason they were fighting considering Brooke said “good job not hitting on him” and Peyton responded “thanks for the sex.” Brooke tells Lucas that she stopped missing him. I thought that the Brooke/Lucas break-up was kind of unfair because Brooke was being honest about not missing him anymore and the way it came off was that Brooke was breaking up with Lucas because of Peyton confession. Lucas didn’t try to convince Brooke of anything all he said was sorry which was kind of crappy in my opinion. The minute they break up he goes straight to Peyton’s house. Lucas tells Peyton that he is going to get Brooke back but constantly hanging out with Peyton is def. not the way to do it. He just can’t seem to stay away from her. He doesn’t really do the best job of trying to win Brooke over but at least he tries to be friends with her. Lucas tells Peyton that he used to watch her legs. In season 4 we see their relationship start to build back up. It was strong but season 4 made it stronger. Lucas/Peyton began to hang out all the time, and Brooke avoids both of them. I think that Peyton was very gracious in this season. She waited until Lucas/Brooke were over each other before she confessed her feelings. Brooke once again was toying with Lucas asking him to accompany her to the banquet because she mad at Peyton, but that was necessary because they both realized that it was over. They both had their closure and said what they were thinking. Peyton confessed to Lucas that she is in-love with him, and considering he was oblivious to what went on with Peyton/Jake and Peyton/Brooke he thought that she was confused and wasn’t really in-love with him. Lucas says something at the beginning of the episode like, “for a long time I thought that we would be more but at some point you have to accept it isn’t meant to be.” Most BL took that as a sign that he didn’t think that he wanted to be with Peyton but that line made me realize that Lucas was still holding on to hope for a long time that him and Peyton would eventually be something more. We all know that Lucas/Peyton started dating in this episode and Brooke handled the whole situation extremely mature. Brooke was pro-LP even though her/Peyton weren’t back to being best friends she was happy that they had finally found each other. Brooke/Lucas/Peyton triangle ends in this episode. Brooke/Peyton finally mend their relationship and everyone is fine. But Lucas makes another statement at prom when him and Glenda are in the library trying to help Lucas relive the school shooting and he says this is where Peyton and I hid out she told me she loved me I figured it was because she lost a lot of blood but on some level I knew it was true I was just it would hurt Brooke. That was another statement that shows that Lucas was still holding hope that he and Peyton would eventually be something more while he was with Brooke maybe he was doing it consciously but it was still there. I am not trying to take away anything from BL relationship because like I said before it was a beautiful relationship and they did love each other, but in relationships you have to grow together and I don’t feel they did that. That is my opinion.

Season 5
Lindsey comes into the mix being with Lucas. At the beginning of the season we don’t see Brooke really in the triangle it is really a Peyton/Lucas/Lindsey triangle and but the difference is that Peyton has made it clear in the 7th episode that she is still in love with Lucas. We see in the flashback where Lucas proposing that him and Brooke pretend to be engaged and they are talking about their life together in the carriage ride, but it was strictly role-playing because when the driver said love is the most important thing finding the person to spend your life with Brooke taps Lucas on the arm showing that it is going to okay. Lucas kisses Brooke and tells her she can stay but Brooke realizes that Lucas is just trying to mend his broken heart nothing more, but she doesn’t say that he was the only boy that she would have given up her company for. I think most people took that as a sign that Brooke was still in-love with Lucas but you have to understand that the flashback was three years ago and I think Brooke meant that Lucas is the only guy in her life so far that she has ever really loved, because she is clearly LP in beginning season 5. After the wedding Brooke/Lucas friendship grows with the help of Angie. They have a wonderful friendship but once again Lucas is trying to distract himself from his broken heart. Lucas/Brooke became wonderful friends, the same way he was with Peyton in season 3. Brooke/Lucas were strictly platonic and they were there for each other when they needed it. I think Mark threw Brooke into the cliffhanger just to get people to watch. Lucas/Brooke other than there “I love you Lucas Scott, I love you Brooke Davis” lines showed no indication that they wanted to be more than friends. Even with the I love you’s it wasn’t an emotional thing or a heart-felt thing it was a platonic I love you. We all know that Lucas picked Peyton as the one he wanted to be with, but I think that Brooke/Lucas will always be a constant in each other’s lives because they have been through a lot together and they understand each other.
Whether you are hoping for BL or LP I don’t think we will fully know who Lucas will end up with until the last season.

I hope you enjoyed reading my interpretation of the triangle. I know some people won’t agree and I am sorry. Like I said this is just MY opinion.
