Regarding the name Haruhi, wouldn't the costumers know that shes a girl, based on her name?

Cause isn't Haruhi a girl name, or is it like one of those names were u can't tell weather its a boy or girl, or is there some weird Japanese custom i should now about (like Tamaki, i want to know it all ^u^)
