The Radiant Terriers and New Religion had recently collaborated on an album together. They were going to go on a tour across the country together to promote the new album. That morning, Leila was having breakfast with her aunt and uncle. Her aunt asked, "Are you excited, dear?" Leila said, "Oh, yes. I can't wait to see my new friends again." Her dog, Paul, barked in agreement. After finishing her breakfast, Leila helped wash the dishes. She then made sure all of her essentials were packed. Just then, she heard a horn honk. She said, "That's the tour bus. Come on, Paul, let's go!" When she got on, all her friends were waiting. Paul (not the dog) said, "There's my namesake dog!" The 102-pound German Shepherd "hugged" him and licked his face. The two Pauls then proceeded to sit together. New Religion's mascot, Klondike, greeted Leila. Erin then said, "I think we're all set." Everyone nodded. Carl then said, "Tampa, Florida, here we come!" It was a very enjoyable ride. They even made a few stops to walk and to get some snacks. They finally arrived in Tampa at 10:30 pm. They settled into the hotel and called it a night.

As Anjanette worked on her assignment in class, she thought about whether or not she should tell Ferdinand the truth. She thought, Why waste my time? He'll never believe me. She then thought about what Uncle Bruce would tell her if he were there. "Just tell him the truth. If he doesn't believe you, then you don't need him as a friend." When lunch time came, Anjanette walked to the cafeteria with Ferdinand. He asked, "Why did you avoid my question this morning?" She said, "Okay, Ferdinand." She took a deep breath. "I think I should tell you the truth. You might not understand." He said, "Try...

"Anjanette! What happened to you?"
As soon as Uncle Bruce opened the door, he noticed Anjanette had been hurt. Part of her had been hoping he wouldn't notice so as not to worry him, but there was something nice about having someone around who cared enough about her to worry. "I'm fine," Anjanette assured him, trying to smile. "Actually, better than fine - I got this for defending a new friend I made."
Anjanette went on to tell her uncle all about Ferdinand, and how nice he was to her and how he was a hippie, how they both loved the Beatles and sixties music, and how Ferdinand...

Ferdinand gave a smile and said, "Hi, Anjanette. It's nice to meet you. You know, you don't have to be afraid of me." She said, "I don't?" He said, "Of course not. I don't want to hurt you. I don't want to hurt anybody." She said, "I'm not afraid of you. I was just afraid that you wouldn't like me. I was afraid you would prefer the more popular girls." He said, "No way. The popular girls don't seem nice, and at my old school, they were always so violent, getting into fights every time you turned around." Anjanette felt reassured knowing that Ferdinand didn't like the popular girls. She asked,...

The next morning, Anjanette was still feeling very hurt as she went into the kitchen to get some breakfast. Her mother was sitting there drinking coffee and eating toast and eggs. She ignored Anjanette, not asking her how she'd slept or whether she'd like any breakfast. Anjanette silently helped herself to cold cereal, which was all she could find that she knew how to make. She shrunk in her chair as she ate, avoiding her mother's eye.
"Anjanette, sit up straight," said her mother abruptly, when Anjanette was about halfway through her cereal. "And for heaven's sake quit frowning....

From the day she was born, Anjanette was not loved by her parents. According to her father, she was "an accident". Her school mates weren't much better. Anjanette was either ignored or bullied by them. As a result, she was very lonely. The only loving person she ever had in her life was her uncle, Bruce. Bruce was her father's younger brother. From the day she was born, he adored Anjanette. He was thrilled to be an uncle. Knowing that she plenty of love there, Anjanette spent a lot of time with Uncle Bruce. There were many nights that she spent at his house, especially if her parents were fighting....
