What's better for the environment: Wooden pencils or mechanical pencils?

I would really like to know. Drawing is my favorite thing to do, so i have allot of pencils and colored pencils, and i never liked mechanical pencils because i thought replacing the breaks-all-the-time lead constantly was tedious.

But trees are cut down in order to make pencils, and i want to at least try to lessen the impact i make on the environment, so are which would be more eco-freindly?

Well I was going to say wooden pencils because if you throw them away they won't harm the environment because they're made of natural materials. But then you reminded me about cutting down trees to make wooden pencils so now I don't know.

You can try getting a mechanical pencil with thicker lead, most have a .7 but when I had a .9 it never broke.
