Looking for a good book to read...

I love to read. Really love to read.

So here's my question: I'm looking for a good book. I tend to like romance novels, murder mysteries, and historical fiction. I prefer my books not to have anything to do with vampires, magic, all that. I don't mind intense novels, but I don't want to read something that will make me want to crawl under the covers either. And I'm sixteen, so age appropriate please.
