It depends on how well you know the couple getting married, and how much you can afford. My niece got married last spring, so we were very generous with her. You can see if the couple is registered anywhere; most people do that, and there is usually a range of gift items and prices. You can also go in with a group of friends to get a more expensive gift. But at the end, it is your budget, and your friends do not want you to break your account for a gift.
