How do i pay for xbox live?

I'm getting an xbox 360 for Christmas and i would also like to play xbox live so that i would be abel to play HALO online with other players.

When you start up the xbox there will be a thing where you sign up for xbox live. Just follow all the steps it shows you and give the information it asks for.
