Why do people try to look different in Graduation photos?

I was walking around today and wondered this. I was thinking of Grade 8 graduation photos, and how most of the girls made their hair look different than they usually do it. It seems a little silly because it makes one look hardly recognizable in the photos, at least to me. Are they trying to look different, and if so, why? Tell me everything you know about this topic, please. I'm curious to know what you guys think.

For mine it was more or less this; our graduation photo was to be the same as our yearbook photo. Everyone sees the yearbook photo so the goal for me was to look at least decent lol (actually putting on make up for once). Plus it's like the last school picture.

Mine was also actually like a full on photoshoot; I didn't want to do it, but my mom made. So that could be another reason; I can imagine that there were kids like me who didn't gaf but their parents did so they just went with it to appease the parental figure.

They're trying to look their most presentable for a photo.

Obviously lmao.

Normally on formal occasions such as a graduation/photo, you don't show up how you normally rock out of bed.
