As Irene left the room, she ran into Joan.
'What were you doing in his room?.'
'Saying goodbye.'
'Good. You've caused enough trouble.' She was about to go in when Irene grabbed her arm.
'Look, the only reason i did all those things was to protect him.'
'By letting them kidnap his girlfriend? Some protection.'
'The only reason i did that was... because i was jealous.'
'Of me?. She nodded 'Why?.'
'I was still in love him. I still am. He was the only man who was so challenging and difficult to figure out. I liked it, found it..kinda sexy. Then i saw how he was with you and i couldn't handle it. I'm sorry for what they put you through. I won't be bothering you anymore.' She left, Joan watched her go. She felt ashamed somehow, probably for realizing that she only did what she did because they both loved the same man enough that they would do anything for him. She looked at her one last time then went into the room.
'Hey.'
'Hey.' She leaned down and kissed him. 'How you doing?.'
'Lots better. Plus, because of the scar, i now have a memento of this joyous occasion.' Joan giggled. 'Hear anything from Gregson?.'
'They haven't found anything. Its like he just dis-appeared.'
'I'm sure he'll resurface soon. He hasn't finished the job.' Joan took his hand. 'You know, i honestly thought i was going to die. I lay there thinking... this is it.'
'But your still here. That's what counts.'
'Thanks to you.' He kissed the back of her hand. They smiled at each other.
'When are you allowed to come home?.'
'In a few days.'
'I suppose i can wait that long.'
As Irene left the hospital, a car pulled up in front of her. The door opened and she got in.
'I'm sorry.'
'Sorry? Sorry doesn't begin to cover it. You will continue to work for me until the job is done.'
'What if i refuse?.'
'You can expect a visit of your own.'
