Joan was woke by the sunlight shining in though the window. She opened her eyes and smiled at her husband, who was still sleeping. She rolled over and checked her phone, no messages from Mycroft. She sat up and ran her hand through her hair, thinking about the wedding. She looked down her ring finger and smiled, she was married. She quietly got out of bed and made her way downstairs. When she got to the kitchen, she found her breakfast was already made. She read the note on the table:
'You didn't really think i was asleep for all that time did you? Enjoy.'
She giggled. He was so thoughtful, one of things she liked about him. When she finished, she went and sat on the sofa, waiting for Sherlock to rise. She heard him move about an hour later. He came downstairs.
'Hey.'
'Hey.' He sat down next to her, She leaned in and kissed him. 'Thanks for breakfast.'
'My pleasure. You heard from Mycroft?'
'Not yet, i'm sure everything's fine either that or my mum's keeping Joesph hostage.'
'Wouldn't blame her.' They both heard the mailman. 'I'll get it.' He kissed her head then went over to the door.
'If it's the water company again...'
'No, it's not them. It's from court.' He sat back down and opened the letter. 'The date for the trial.' He handed it to Joan.
'Tomorrow? Can they hold it this early?'
'It depends on the case.' He saw that she looked disappointed. 'What's wrong?'
'Nothing, it's...I had our honeymoon booked for the day after well, Mycroft did.'
'We can still go.'
'But what if they send you down?
'They have no evidence to support her claim, and they've already sent her down for trying to kill me. The only reason their holding the trial has something to do with Moriarty. He's probably blackmailing the jury.' She smiled at him.
'You seem confident?'
'Why wouldn't i be? I know i'm innocent and I've married the woman i love.' He leaned in and kissed her. 'I'm feeling more than confident.' She re-captured his lips.
'Care to show me, how confident you are?' She took his hand and led him upstairs.
Irene was in a briefing with her lawyer. They were going over the questions she would ask her when it was her turn in the stand.
'Ms Adler, can you tell me how Mr Holmes assaulted you?'
'We were having an argument.'
'About?'
'Ummm...' She didn't know what to say. 'I can't remember.'
'Irene, you need to know this. How else will you convince the jury? They've already charged you with attempted murder so your lucky they decided to look into this. Even if it's a lie.'
'Moriarty knows what he's doing, that's why he hired you. Let's go over it again.'
They spent the next couple of hours going over each detail of the night in question. Irene got better each time, Tomorrow was the trial and Irene knew if she could convince the jury with her lies, She would get off Scot free.
It was the day of the trial. Sherlock was getting ready upstairs. While Joan waited for him, Mycroft came in with Joseph.
'Hey.'
'Hey. Hey Joseph.' He passed him over to her. 'Hope he hasn't been too much trouble.'
'Not at all.' He looked round. 'Where's Sherlock?'
'Getting ready.'
'Do you mind if i...?'
'No, go on up.'
Mycroft made his way upstairs to his brother's room, as he got closer he could hear him practicing his testimony.
'And that you honour, is the real version of events... '
'Agreed.' Sherlock turned at sound of his voice. ' your nervous.'
'Wouldn't you be?'
Mycroft went over and helped him with his tie. 'You'll be fine, and you'll be on your honeymoon before you know it.' They gave each other a quick smile then headed downstairs. Sherlock stopped and looked Joan with Joseph, hoping this wouldn't be the last time he saw them like this.
