Set a couple of months after the trial
As Sherlock sat, waiting for Joan, he thought about the past couple of years. His relationship with Joan has gone from strength to strength, sure they've had their moments but what couple hasn't? He has a beautiful baby boy, who he adores so much and his relationship with his father has gone from none existent to rebuilding. And now he's here.
'Sherlock?' He snapped out of his trance. 'You ok?' He looked up to see Joan standing with Joesph.
'I'm fine. Just thinking.'
'What about?' She sat down next to him.
'Sherlock..' She took his hand in hers. 'It's not your fault.'
'I just wish i could've done something, you know, in the end.'
'You did everything you possibly could. But there are somethings that are even out of your control.'
'Mr Holmes?' Sherlock let go of her hand and stood.
'We're ready to begin.'
'Thank you, i'll be there in a minute.' He took a moment to compose himself. This would be his most difficult challenge. He felt Joan recapturing his hand in her's and giving him a tight squeeze. He looked at her and Joesph, He knew he would get through this. He took one last breath and went inside. He felt everyone's eyes on him, not really judging him but trying to determine his state of mind. He stopped before the podium, Joan went to take her seat but couldn't as Sherlock hadn't released her hand. She knew he was scared, scared to say goodbye. She placed Joesph with her parents and turned his head to face her.
'What is it?'
'I don't think i can do this.' She placed her hand on his cheek. 'Help me.'
'Sherlock, there are somethings you need to do on your own..and this is one of them. It will be hard but i know you can do it.' She gave him a quick kiss. 'I love you.' She let go of his hand and took her place beside her parents. He couldn't have asked for a better wife. He went and took his place at the podium. He gazed out at the people in front of him, he knew very little of them but they came anyway.
'Thank you everyone for coming. We're here to day to remember my brother, Mycroft, who sadly lost his long going battle to cancer.'
