They both sat in Gregson's office as they questioned Oscar about the drug dealer, they hadn't said a word to each other since leaving the brownstone. Sherlock could tell when she was annoyed with him, he had seen that look many times. He moved closer to her and buried his face in her hair.
'Joan, please, talk to me.' He kissed her shoulder. 'I'm sorry.'
She sighed.
'I know you are, but you've been keeping more secrets from me first it was Irene, then your brother now this. How many more can i expect?'
'No more.'
'You sure about that.' He placed his forehead on her shoulder, not wanting to look in her eye and lie to her. 'I thought so.' She got up from the couch, keeping her back to him. 'Sherlock, why did you marry me?'
'How can you ask me that?'
'Because it seems so easy for you to lie to me, it makes me wonder if i can really trust you.'
He got up and wrapped his arms around her waist.
'Joan, I love you. The only reason I keep secrets is to protect you and our son, i don't want anything to happen to either of you. You're my whole world.'
He began to kiss her shoulder moving his way up to her neck, she subconsciously moved her head to the side to give him more access. After a minute, she remembered they were in the captain's office
'Sherlock..'
'Hmm?'
'We're in Gregson's office.' He continued to kiss her. 'Sherlock.'
He then heard Bell's voice traveling down the corridor, he let go of Joan and stood by her side as the pair entered the office.
'What did he say?'
'Not much, kept claiming that the guy would come after him if he told.'
'That's always been Oscar, playing the victim. Let me talk to him.'
'You think he'll tell you anything different?' The captain made a good point. 'The frustrating thing is this is the dealer we've been after for months. He is known for recruiting addicts to distribute drugs over New York , we've found a couple dead over the last week.'
Gregson handed the report to Sherlock, who began to glance over it as Joan read along side him. 'Oscar must have to come to you because he wanted an easy way out.'
'So what do you suggest captain?'
He looked at Bell and Joan.
'Can I have word with Holmes in private?' Bell nodded and left the office, Joan was least hesitant. 'Joan?'
'I already know what you're going to say to him and I don't approve of it.'
For the first time ever, Sherlock had no idea what was going on.
'Joan, he is the only one who knows how to handle Oscar, this could lead us to the dealer.'
Joan laughed.
'And you're ready to risk his sobriety?'
'What's my sobriety got to do with this?'
'He wants to put you undercover.'
Sherlock looked at Gregson.
'Seriously?'
'Like I said you know Oscar, if you could convince the dealer you're one of his friends looking for work...'
'He's not doing it! He has been clean for nearly three years.'
'I'm not suggesting he take the drugs..'
'What if they expect him to?'
Gregson let out a sigh.
'Captain, could you give us a moment?'
Gregson left without a word.
'Don't tell me you're considering this?'
Sherlock couldn't even look at her.
'You are. Sherlock..'
'I know this is risky but if it helps the police detain this man..'
'This is more then a risk, you're putting three years of sobriety on the line. What if you get addict again? How long will you have to spend in rehab?'
He took her hand and lead her to sit on the couch with him.
'Joan, I understand your concerns and believe me, i have them to, but this is something i know i can do without having to resort back to drugs. I have spent so much time around addicts to know how to act like one. You have to trust me.'
Joan sighed.
'I do trust you, i just don't want anything to happen to you.'
He leaned forward placing his forehead on hers.
'I'll be fine, i promise.'
