In the book Club Dead, which is book 3. They are searching for Bill together and Eric and her are both fond and tempted by each other but Sookie remains loyal to Bill( even though he does not deserve it) Which sets up for the best book in the series Dead to the World... in my opinion:) hope I answered your question without giving too much away.

I just finished book 5 (Dead as a Doornail) and in that book, they have Eric running down a dirt road that Sookie so happens to be traveling on her way home. She stop's for him and find's that he has complete memory loss due to some witch's casting a spell on him that he has pissed off. Sookie ends up having to hide Eric at her home where they do start a short & fiery relationship. But unfortunately, he get's his memory back & the relationship comes to a stop. I have a feeling that there may be some of this in the up coming season. But as for them becoming a full fledged couple in the book's,No. We all will have to see what Alan Ball pull's out of his script for these two.

Even though Alan Ball is known to stray away from the books a bit, overall he has stayed quite loyal to them. Its a close call for Eric and Sookie in Book 3 but sadly Bubba interrupts! Lol. Alan Ball has recently said that it is inevitable Eric and Sookie will eventually get together in the show, although this season's not it. Book 4 is when Sookie and Eric actually get together, but all I will say is that Eric is not really himself... Hope this helps :)
