I don't know how many of you have read Harry Potter, but I love them. They are such a great idea, terrificly written, and funny. The characters are real and they move you.
Wow, I pretty much just described Twilight didn't I? :) They're both best sellers, they're both being made into movies. They're both blockbuster hits (Twilight most likely).
I think what makes the major difference between these amazing stories is the author.
I won't lie and say I know a lot about J. K. Rowling but I've seen one interview, and it was enough to convinse me that, no matter how good her books are, I hate her.
J.K. Rowling is richer than the royal family (a proven fact). And yet she's let fame and fortune go to her head. I saw one interview with her, and she was a nasty, bitter, old, wrench. She did nothing but complain about the "bloody Americans" and how the adaptation of the HP movies weren't up to her standards. She was horrible! I dislike her so much that if I saw her on the street I wouldn't stop her for an autograph, even IF I was carrying one of her books with me at the time.
Stephenie Meyer on the other hand is so sweet! I haven't read one interview with her where she was being unkind. She answers the questions, dosn't say anything bad about anyone, she even completely supports the cast, and helps them to better adapt their characters. I would travel to see Stephenie.
Hands down, Stephenie Meyer is going to go farther than J.K. Rowling. Stephenie has just finished the first in another book series (The Host) which so far has gotten wonderful reviews (from the blessed souls who were permitted to read it before it's release date, jerks lol). She doesn't place all her fame and popularity on one book series.
What else has J.K. Rowling wrote besides: How to be a Stuffy British Bitch with a Bad Attitude? (Oh she hasn't wrote that either? Too bad, she'd be great at it!) Nothing! She's wrote nothing else. Yeah Harry Potter may carry her until the end of time, but Stephenie is a true author, and she won't stop.
What I'd like to see, more than anything else, is the day the Twilight Series bumped Harry Potter 7 down to 2nd best seller. I want to be there watching J.K. Rowling pulling out her nasty bleach blonde hair and screaming about how Meyer is just a bloody American who is less than she because she's British.
Oh, bloody Hell Rowling, doesn't it suck to be second to an America? :) *Evil cackle*
(No offense to any of you British people, I love you guys! You're our Mother Land :). That and, honestly, most of us are desendants from England. Love your country, love your accents, love you guys. Hate J.K. Rowling. Long live the Queen! lol)

VictoriaBaghaei So I was googling some stuff and I came across this and I'd just thought I'd put you in your place. You are absolutely one of the dumbest people I have ever met in my entire life. Let me tell you why, because I'm not just saying that because I'm a Harry Potter fan.
J.K. Rowling is by far one of the greatest authors that we have had the pleasure to get to grow up with. I have been reading Harry Potter since I was a child. It is and always will be my child hood. J.K. took time writing her books, planning them out, actually making something happen and not giving the readers what they want, a super happy ending. Stephenie Meyer, on the other hand, is a terrible author. She wrote her books within 3 years, I believe? They absolutely have NO lessons that could be learned from reading them, and it's basically about a stupid slut who can't choose between two guys. Yeah, sure, I liked twilight when I was in 7th grade! Have you noticed that people grow out of the books and realize how bad they are? Did you realize that never happened with Harry Potter? Once a Harry Potter fan, always a Harry Potter fan. If you are criticizing it now, comparing it to a stupid book about vampires, you were NEVER a fan. Also, Twilight has yet to beat Harry Potter in Ticket sales? DId you notice that Harry Potter has a fucking theme park? Yeah, you're stupid. J.K. made, basically, a whole new world. A WHOLE FUCKING WORLD. You're dumb. I'm sorry you can't see the greatness that is Harry Potter.
loolagirl OOOOOOOOOOOO YOu make me want to hit you! http://images.fanpop.com/images/emoticons/angry.jpgI'm sorry but what?!?!?!? Ok so 1) tWILIGHT IS NOT GOOD. iT'S GRAMMATICALLY TERRIBLE, and addresses NONE of the isue Harry Potter does. Harry Potter is amazingly interwoven, everything is important and leading to the final, where you find out the answers to like, 10 different storylines. Twilight just runs in a straight line with no complex plot at all. DON'T YOU DARE. SAY. THEY'RE. ANYTHING. ALIKE.
2) Stephenie Meyer is a bitch! She reacts badly to critism, when a girl at a convention i went to asked her why she'd chosen to make Bella such a boring and stereotypical and ridiculous character, (which is a perfectly good question) she just siad she had creative control of the characters and could do what she very well liked, then left early in a strop. When people go to her book signings, she just says thanks for coming. Nothing else. Rowling engages her fans in conversation, listens to their queries, helps them if they need advice in writing. So you an clearly see now, that yo CANNOT EVEN COMPARE the two books or authors, coz JKROWLING and Harry Potter will ALLLLLLWWWAAYYYSSS win. http://images.fanpop.com/images/emoticons/grin.jpg
velvet_petals Not sure what interview this was, but I'd like to see it. All the interviews I've watched with Jo are great, and she seems like a lovely person. Stephanie Meyer also, I agree, seems like a sweet person, but that doesn't make her a better author. At all. I have read all the Twilight books, more than once (when I was younger I quite enjoyed them) but as I matured and began to read better written books (The Hunger Games, Stephen King, Percy Jackson, Les Miserables, Jane Austen... Actually most books) I can't appreciate Meyer's writing anymore. The plot isn't too bad, but her style of writing is, to put it crudely, pretty much just her imagination vomiting onto the page with no real structure or flow. Also, people that are saying J K Rowling isn't kind or generous and is a cold hearted cow, you should look up the story of the girl who had lukemia, and also look into Jo's various contributions to charity. Honestly, before people decide that they 'hate' someone, they should do their research and maybe take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror. Meyer, while appearing to be a lovely woman, has absolutely no depth in her writing, whereas JK has put so much though into her books it's almost rediculous. JK inspires me to write stories of my own which I hope to get published when I'm older, while Steohanie Meyer makes me dispare for the future of the literary world... Love and butterfly kisses ;) Vera
Rogue_Evolution Could you send a link of the interview? This is all purely my own opinion. I read the first two Twilight books, and couldn't read them anymore. I thought they were badly written, and she completely destroyed vampires. Yes, I know the series are fiction, but that doesn't stop me from thinking about Tinkerbell whenever I hear the word Twilight, or Edward Cullen now does it? As Urban dictionary says (check it if you like it's the first one on the following link, http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=vampire)The werewolves ARE BELIEVABLE! Granted, NOT under that name, but shapeshifters and skinwalkers - I like mythology, so yes I am going there. I read The Host before Twilight and thought it was okay, but I haven't read it since. The whole 'aliens in your body' creeped my out. Which is saying something, seeing as I love Supernatural. Wierd. Any, back on track of what I REALLY wanted to say. I don't see what Albus Dumbledore being gay has to do with anything! It had no impact on the books whatsoever. I didn't even know until I read the Albus Dumbledore article on Harry Potter Wikia. I love Harry Potter because I like magic and adventure, and the HP books are very much so. And this is directly to the person who made the disgustingly derogatory comment on homosexuals: unless someone of the same gender as you is stalking/obsessing over you, you shouldn't be involved. That's my motto. I'm straight, but I have no problem with people being homosexual. As long as they're not getting me to join in, I'm not going to bother them. And you should do the same. If a homosexual does happen to drop a hint they like you in a romantic way, and you're straight, simply AND KINDLY tell them you are straight and not interrested, and walk away.
Rogue_Evolution Yes I know I made spelling errors
Lucifersangel91 Okay? You judged an author based on one interview? How shallow of you. Oh and I love your comeback to the debate raised. (sarcasm) Reminds me of high school children when they know they've been beaten and say , "Yeah? Well, shut up. So there nya nya nya." An adult would have a civilised debate, rather than respond so childishly.
JK Rowling might not be the best author out there, but she acts like a real author should. More than I can say for SMeyer! I don't have anything against her, personally. I think you should judge an author based on their writing style, technique, prose, word and character building. (So far, Stephenie hasn't done so well. But that's another debate.) You know, aspects of their work? And to whoever says you can't criticize Meyer, do you have any idea what being an author entails? Critiques are welcomed (or should be) by real authors, as it can greatly improve their own shortcomings when it comes to their work. You publish your work and someone critiques it, you say, "Thanks for the advice," and move on like an adult. If Stephenie would do this, I would respect her alot more. But that is her choice.
And who the hell implied that JK was "attention grabbing" by saying Dumbledore was gay? As I understand, English people went, "Oh, really? How nice for Dumbledore," and moved on. The (fringe group) American response was, "ZOMG Teh Ghey agenda is coming for our kids! Run away!" Not everyone in America, agreed, of course.
Just because a minority of people, who happen to be Christian and American, made a song and dance about a fictional character's sexuality (which is rather inane) doesn't mean JK "did it for publicity" or was "attention seeking."
She merely answered a question pertaining to an aspect of a fictional character she created.
10Luke10 That is untrue. Jk rowling is a wonderful person. i dont know what interview u were watching. Also Twilight is just constant cliches, Harry Potter is much better, who r u kidding u sound like a biased bitch
Rytex Let me point out everything you got right in this article: nothing.
You got nothing right on this. You have no evidence to back up your claim about Rowling being a snooty bitch (if so, please, by all means, post the link to the interview), your speculation, which I give a bit of leeway to due to the fact that this was speculation, was completely inaccurate (HPDH2 is the number 3 highest grossing film ever, where Breeding Spawn was number 47, and it didn't even break 700 Million, as well as not surpassing its predecessors), et cetera.
Now, I interrupt this fantasy with a dose of reality, courtesy of The Daily Insanity. Meyer is NOT a good writer. True, she fared well enough to publish four doorstoppers worth of information (not to mention establishing the biggest cult outside of Bieber-Fever and The Church of Scientology) and make millions, but her writing style is so immature. She based her books off of dreams. She had no real planning, and she did absolutely zero research before penning her words. For example, the flora and fauna in Forks? Nope, can't be found in that area. A plane ride from Florence Italy wouldn't have French translation on board.
I know plenty about the books (I did a research paper comparing HP to TTS), and for said paper, I had to research monetary figures, critical analyses, et cetera. Twilight, in general, is not as well like as HP. In fact, The Twilight Saga has even begun to be eclipsed (no pun intended) by The Hunger Games, which are an attempt to mix the romance (however horrid) of Twilight with the action of Harry Potter.
The point is, you're wrong about everything on here, and Twilight won't last. Hate to break it to you, but like I said, we interrupt this fantasy with a dose of reality.
Rowling's Truly,
Rytex.
potterhead47 Are you an idiot? J.K. Rowling is amazing, the movies are amazing (with a bunch of good looking people like Tom Felton, Matthew Lewis, ect), and you have no right to say that J.K. Rowling isn't a good person! you've never met her. And I highly doubt that she hates Americans/America! She didn't let fame go to her head! Harry Potter is childhood to Potterheads, Twilight is just something that people read or watch the movies. It's nothing special. Twilight is just...stupid! Harry Potter has meaning and stuff. AND WHAT KIND OF VAMPIRE SPARKLES?!?!?!
potterhead47 OH! and do you KNOW how many times Twilight sorta, copied, Harry Potter? Jacob Black becomes into a dog and rides a motorcycle. How original! Sounds a whole lot like Sirius Black. The last name, Black, Sirius Black, Jacob Black. Thats just a few. There are TONS more!
potterhead47 @lovettstar, i like you. you have very good points. and you seem very cool/awesome.
FalconAnimagus Um..... How can you think the twilight sparklepants are realistic?!? Bella is whiny, obsessive, bitchy and worse. Edward is a pedophilic stalker. Victoria... Might have made an alright main character, but as a villain???... The list goes on. The Harry Potter books have real literary value and complex characters who have real struggles. The mature. The only times they come off as dependent on a boy, slutty or clingy is when they're supposed to. JK is a great authoress and goin on about this whole British thing is quite biased, seeing as you're basically saying you're better because you're American. And hypocritical... Really, you say she's acting like a stuffy old British woman, which in itself is saying this is your picture of British women, but you get mad when she says something about you Americans!!! Yeah, I'm British. I have a few American classmates and cousins, some of whom are total bitches, some of which are really quite nice. I'm not prejudiced when I say that JK is o e hundred times the writer Meyers will ever be. Hell, my cousin is around fifty times that writer!!! My goldfish (dead) was TEN times the writer Meyers is!!! And really, Harry Potter is the book that will stay in our hearts.
iam24 Thats natural u know...if ur the author andplan to make iit movie...ofciurse u want it ro be exactly like tthe one u wrote...actually its her ryt....and its non of ur business
FalconAnimagus Um... I'm just going to agree with that. JK is a wonderful person from what I've heard, whereas to me (my opinion, I don't really know) SMeyer seems like a bit of a a stuck-up, childish brat, and I'm only thirteen... I would love to meet JK, I have a lot to ask, and I would go to a lot of trouble to question Meyer on her works and the plot-holes. The difference is really that I know for a fact that Meyer would simply get mad at me.
On another note, I think you'll find that we HP fans are finding it easier to defend our fandom and authoress than you twihards are. Also, we're actually doing it, unlike you twihards. The latter shows a lot about the different levels of devotion we have here, because Harry Potter is something that stays for life. Twilight is a passing fad. I would continue ranting, but the keys on my iPod are tiny, this is therefore tiring and my laptop was banned cause I refused to stop writing at eleven... Going through a weird phase...
Lunatrix-_- JKR has announced that she's writing another book, this time for adults. She isn't just writing another book, but she is also writing a different genre. She has written three books based on the magical wizarding world, proving that it isnt just the adventures of Harry she cared about. Hands down JKR is better. Atleast she wasn't conceited enough to appear in a movie based on her own books.
anam1234 r u out of ur mind!!!! J.K Rowling is my role model. Rowling is a waaay better writer stephenie on the other hand has no story. Evem stephen king agrees. You have no right to talk about Rowling like that. she is always sweet in the interveiws i have seen. plus as u mentioned you have seen or heard many of shephenies interviews and you havent even COMPLETED a whole interview about rowling and u r launching ur own theories. have u even watched the speech she gave at the last harry potter movie premier. she was full of praises and how the actors were perfect for the role. daniel and emma watson even said that they were good because of rowlings support. please do ur research before u write something like this on the internet.BTW even watch the haward commencement speech of 2008
hpforever256 OH MY DAISSSSS!!!! How can you even write an article like that! You may like the books but judging someone by one interview??? and to be honest i think i must have watched all j rowling related interviews an i have never come across any like the one your on about! JK is an amazing person and shes so nice! She has such an inspiring background and she actually teaches you something in her books whereas meyer (as nice as she may seem to be ) teaches us nothing other than fall in love with a sparkly vampire....
and if u can turn around and say rowling is rude/mean and whatever else after just watching one interview anyone can say that about you after reading only one of your spiteful articles... just something to think about.... :)
tsmith120 From what I've seen of her in interviews, which for the sake of the argument I shall count as more reliable than second-hand information with no genuine evidence to back it up, she seems like a nice enough person, still in touch with her roots and very polite. So I'll just casually laugh off everything said in this article. Just wanted to put across my view on the situation.
Helena-B-Carter J.K Rowling is the perfect role model. So is Stephenie Meyer if you want to become a self-centered, idiotic and incredibly vain writer one day. And she doesn't even write well!
I recommend everyone to watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_ER5VCFI9Y
zar_far11 That interview is fake its obviously not real u just made it up. And even if it was real, u cant base ur opinions on one interview. J.k. Rowling is an amazing author, but more importantly, an amazing human being & role model
nharmsworth *face palm*
You suck .. really hard.
I'm fed up as are most people of Harry Potter v Twilight it's pathetic , I think Twilight sucks the writing is awful and the story line is stupid.Dead people cant procreate and don't sparkle!
It took Stephenie Meyer no time at all to pull Twilight out of her ass but took JKRowling years to write Harry potter because of the research and love she put into it (not some erotic dream).
So ok JKRowling has just released her new book because you know what she is a real author.I tend to think twilight is for silly little girls because if you can read the book you must be a child and even my 11 year old sister won't touch the crap.
ONE INTERVIEW REALLY !! you Americans wouldn't get it , It's the writing of an educated person and we act different to you.She is a proper British woman who will voice her opinion and not act fake just to be liked by people like you and i think she gains more respect that way.Yea she has a LOT of money but do you know she set up a charity and does good with her money to be honest i wouldn't be surprised if Stephenie Meyer spent hers on vibrators.
money hasn't changed her she came in down to earth normal clothes minimum makeup and she is the same now.
"The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good," Stephen King.
rstomas I don't dislike them both but your opinion about Jo Rowling is too invalid. Well, as though you're being a verdict and loathing someone even when you less knew them.
rstomas Shortynme, :\......lame, you are lame. You can't hate someone base on an interview - impossible! you're being a verdict - the worse one!http://images.fanpop.com/images/emoticons/uncertain.jpg
RowlingMeyerlol Hi! I am French and I am writing this from google translation! (I do not speak English too)! I created this account because I was very angry about everything you could say about Stephenie Meyer and JK Rowling, two great writers that I admire more than anything! Already, I want to say that JK rowling shortynme right to say it! The films were not too respected books. But the fact that JK loves actors of the saga, it describes Emma Watson as Hermione Granger's perfect. In fact, what you mean is that JK Rowling should be quiet and not give his opinion? PFFFF! I am disgusted to hear that JK is unpleasant! Judge someone by an interview .... Stephenie Meyer is not perfect either, and I can give you proof: She said in the back of Robert Pattinson, as if she had known that he would be Edward Cullen, she has made herself the castings! Video proves it! JK, she at least she tells it in the face! We like it! JK Rowling had a childhood, adolescence difficult! Here's biopic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7U-lW8jTmU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPust5-H27I http://www.youtube.com/watch? v = M9Cu50jWNgc! To see more, you's look! But in all three parts of the film on his life, we could see that it was a lovely person! ♥ She loves her fans, and at least she signs his autographs whole not as Stephenie Meyer! It proves that she has respect! I'd rather have expected much and have a nice autograph, rather than being stay 5 minutes and have a fake smile and an autograph rotten! TwilightManiac9 You're a plague! Ow how you judge someone you do not know! JK is smarter than you! JK Rowling, our beloved witch has the power to make us cry, laugh, smile, scream in a paragraph! Something that Stephenie Meyer should be in a book! At one point I was a Twilihard, but I confess that I was disappointed books! Sure Stephenie Meyer write more than JK Rowling, but let me explain: Stephenie Meyer explains a lot! Who cares that Bella eats cereal breakfast lunch! Shit at the end! She writes useless things, like if JK was the Harry Potter saga is larger than all the books combined! JK has the power to enter a year in one volume! I like the Twilight movies, but the books are tall tales! If we summarize the Twilight saga, this is the story of a schoolgirl who falls madly one of the nicest guys from high school who is actually a vampire! But on another vampire wants to eat so let's go for a chase, one year later, her boyfriend left her to protect her, she makes a new friend! A werewolf, but bad luck, werewolves and vampires do not get along! And then, I've read all the Twilight books and all the Harry Potter books! Stephenie Meyer plagiarized carément Romeo and Juliet, but I confess it well written! I'm not trying to take you into the camp of Potterheads, just that your insults Twilihards you are pathetic! I'm too lazy to tell Twilight! In addition, there is no emotion person dies .... ! While Harry Potter, there is death, life, love, friendship, courage! It makes you cry, guffaw! In Twilight, all's well that ends well ... Live fairy tales! Pff! In Twilight, people are all models, while in Harry Potter, people are like us, you feel close to them! JK Rowling donates money for diseases is someone very kind! And bitch, you ca do whatever JK is richer than the Queen? The queen, she is rich, simply because of his blood! While JK because she has been dreaming more than 450 million people, and it has me completely change my life! She lit the dark path full of thorns, to make room for an imaginary world! And then we Potterheads, we will not be angry with muggles!I love Twilight I will not deny it! But you should know that Robert Pattinson, the beautiful "Edward Cullen" in her first film in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"! Otherwise, you would have another Edward, and the saga would have been shot on less popular, and the couple Robsten would never have been born! Maybe you are more than Twilihard Potterheads on fanpop, but in real, we are more than 300 million more than you love Harry Potter! And go for it on google, tape and tape Twilight Harry Ptter! Harry Potter and millions of result sets of more! LOL! Well, I'm not going to spend my day winds fuck you! Long live the Potterheads!
Book-Freak You know, I'm going to have to disagree with you here. JK Rowling is a very nice person - I, unlike you, have seen almost every interview of her that has been released and can honestly say I like her better than Stephenie Meyer. I'm going to try to counter all the the points raised in the article and the comments because I know I can. And for the record, I’m not attacking you or any Twilight fan, I’m disproving the views expressed in your article. Also, can you give me a link to this interview you watched? I’d like to see it myself.
(In the article)
The point about Americans - is this relating to the fact that she didn't want to have American actors in her films? There is a reason for that you know - in a British boarding school in the middle of Scotland that only accepts students living in the UK and Northern Island, why would there be loads of people with American accents? It called being realistic, not anti-American.
Also, when has she ever said the movies were not up to her standard? In every interview I've seen, she has been nothing but complimentary towards the movie adaptions. She loves the movies. And your point about Stephenie Meyer helping the Twilight actors become better adapted to their roles - don't you know that JK does that too. Have you heard of the 'What does Alan know?' repetitive theme among the cast and crew, caused by JK telling Alan Rickman (Snape) unpublished information about his character.
As to what else has JK written; she has written the seven Harry Potter books, three supplementary books relating to the Harry Potter series, a prelude to Harry Potter, and The Casual Vacancy. So that is eleven books and a short story. What has Meyer written? The four Twilight books, the Illustrated guide, the Eclipse novela, The Host and a short story (part of Prom Nights from Hell). That is five books, three short stories and a guide. I think JK tops that one.
I highly doubt Twilight will replace Harry Potter as Number 1 bestseller. There is simply too many people with negative views about Twilight, and not enough people with good views on Twilight.

(ktcjohnson)
As for 'The Tales of Beedle the Bard' and the prequel; they were written and sold at auction because they were doubtlessly going to make money, as there were only limited copied, and if you hadn't noticed, all the money went to charity! Children In Need, if I'm not mistaken, though don’t quote me on that. I’m not 100% sure, but I know it’s a children’s charity.
Steve Vander Ark - he broke copyright laws and JK had every right to take him to court.
Seriously? You are calling Meyer a better writer because she didn't have a past similar to JK's? That's ridiculous - past depression does not have an effect on the writing of the author, or make her work lacking in any form.
(Angelkat)
JK did not call a press conference to announce Dumbledore's sexuality. Here is the real deal; She was at the reading of The Half Blood Prince in Carnegie Hall in New York. One of the fan's asked if Dumbledore would ever find love, to which JK replied that Dumbledore was gay and had loved his childhood friend Gellert Grindalwald. Of course, the press got news of this and it went worldwide, though I think one of the biggest reactions was in America (I think it might have caused a book burning... which is ridiculous). So there was no conference called, just an answer to a question.
Also, Twilight does not have more sales than Harry Potter. On the list of best-selling authors, JK is 11th with 350 Million sales and Meyer is 56th with 100 Million. On the list of best-selling book series, Harry Potter is in 1st and Twilight is in 21st.
(bronwen)
She has every right to be glad the final book has been finished! For the last decade she has been constantly hounded and pressurised and stalked and had her rubbish bins rifled though, all because of the fame she has received. I would be relieved too!
(IrritableGrizzly)
Why do you think she’ll end up in rehab? She has had a hard life and has dealt with several fits of depression but that is not a reason for rehabilitation. And why would parents disapprove?
She auctioned the Beedle the Bard books to raise money for charity.
(Danibear432)
An airhostess? Are you sure – I can’t find anything on the web to support that so please forgive my scepticism.
(Lollypopfop)
...what? How on earth did you come to that conclusion?
Right. So, hopefully I wasn’t too bitchy in that, but if I was... eh, I don’t really care.
