One dark and blizarding night, on July 24th, a young woman was running through the snow and the harsh, cold wind. Lightning flashed and thunder rumbled, as if a storm was expected. The nearby ocean was churning up to the shore with anger. The woman was carrying a small blue bundle. Looking at the bundle, it was a small baby, all cudled up and asleep in the woman's warm arms. A piercing shout was heard all around the area. The woman cocked her head up into the sky and yelled, "Ha! More beautiful than me, eh? We'll see! Your own daughter will pay for your incompitence!" She sprinted even further. From a close distance, she could see a majestic palace standing in the middle of the cruel snow. "Perfect" the woman smiled evily. "I thought so. HE is really perfect from the start" and ran closer to the palace gates. She laughed coldly and regarded that she's near the palace.
A guard was on duty that night. He saw a small figure running towards the palace. He squinted his eyes and saw the woman running towards him. He thought that she was an intruder. "Halt!," he ordered. "Who goes there?"
The woman took her hood off and revealed her face. The guard was completely awestruck. He cannot remember what his name was or where he is. Standing before him was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He cannot decide what she looked like. He cannot even decide her eye color or her hair, but it was getting to his idea of beauty, like she was reaching to his thoughts. She was really and naturally beautiful. She was dressed in a simple knee-length white Greek Chiton and golden laced sandals. Her lips were blood red and she had the perfect make-up. But, only one thing was unnatural about her; she had a pinkish aura surrounding her.
Before the guard could return to his senses, the woman lifted her hand upon the guard's face and released a white light from the palm of her hand. For a moment, the guard was in a trance. "You will forget that you have seen me." she ordered and the guard only nodded. The woman gave him the baby. "Take THAT child to the King" she pointed at the baby as if it was a piece of trash to be taken out. " and tell him that she was left here at the palace gates and saw no one. Also, give him the note pinned on her blanket. Go!" she ordered. The guard spun around and went inside the palace. When the guard was gone, the woman smiled evily again. "You have done well, Aphrodite" A voice spoke out of nowhere.
Aphrodite didn't looked troubled. She folded her arms to her chest and scowled.
"I know I have done my job well, disposing of that insignificant brat of theirs"
the voice laughed manically. "You will be rewarded greatly. Now, go back to Olympus. They will not notice your,ah, sudden absence" it said.
Aphrodite only nodded. Her body glowed and vanished, taking with her the voice of evil.
In the meantime, the guard entered the throne room, breathing heavily. Behind the throne is an indoor waterfall that fell cascadingly. The floor is made out of solid blue obsidian rock and marble pillars held the ceeling. Sitting on his throne of silver and marble is King Okinawa. The guard knelt. Okinawa has ocean-blue eyes and long black hair that almost touched his shoulders.
"What is it, Mundre?" he asked. Mundre stood up as he cradled the baby into his arms. The king noticed the baby. "And whose child is that?"
"Someone left her at the gates, your highness. I did not see who did" Mundre told him. Okinawa only nodded, stood up and walked towards Mundre. Mundre gave Okinawa the child and the king carried her onto his arms. The baby was finally awake, gurgling. She has sea-green eyes that turned ocean-blue when light reflects it and pale ivory skin. What caught Okinawa's attention was the blue aura that surrounds her and a trident tattoo on her left wrist. Then, he noticed a note pined on her blanket. He began to read it;
I am now giving you this child as a gift. This is Kikya Elune, your new daughter. Accept the fact that she is from me. Love her as much as you can love a daughter. But do not tell the truth about her. Remember, she cannot know who she is
Okinawa dropped the note in shock. The child was a gift from the goddess Aphrodite herself.
"Sire?" asked Mundre. "Are you alright?" The king waved his hand in dismissal.
"Im fine" He said. Okinawa looked at the baby again. "Tell all the people here at the northern kingdom.....Tell them that this child, Kya, is now their princess and my daughter." Okinawa told Mundre, who bowed. "yes, My King" and walked back to his station.
When Mundre left, Okinawa stared at Kya's face. "You, my dear Kya," he began. "is now my daughter and a princess. But, you are a daughter of an Olympian god. Never forget, I'll love you as my own daughter"
13 years later....
Kya woke up from tossing and turning in her sleep. She was breathing heavily and her heart pounded madly through her chest. Kya thought of what her dream meant. It was really confusing... A Goddess giving her to Okinawa. She really wanted answers from him, but he's at Olympia, discussing certain issues with the other leaders of the world.
Kya stood up from her bed. "What a dream.." she murmured, stretching. She quickly changed clothes; a simple white shirt, black pants, leather knee-high boots and her blue winter parka. She looked at herself in the mirror and saw that her wavy dark hair grew two inches overnight. She styled it into a ponytail, but she sneered and let it loose on her shoulders. Her pale ivory skin still looked fair and her sea-green eyes still changed to Ocean-blue. Kya went outside to her balcony. The air was still filled with snow and the smell of fresh fruits. Of course it only suns twice a month in the North Kingdom. And it's also the time of the year to plant fruits.
Then, Kya remembered something. Something important that is happening that day. Then, she finally remembered. She was turning thirteen that day, and now she's a teenager. Even worse, it is customary to their Kingdom that a girl of royal blood must be engaged at the age of Thirteen and shall be married at the age of sixteen or seventeen! Being thirteen means that she's going to be engaged to a boy she has never seen or knew! A blue aura always hang around her every time Kya's angry, but doesn't notice it. Her mind went blank and something shot right past through her ear and heard a loud-CRASH!- and her mind started working again.
The blue around her faded. Kya went back to her room and saw the shattered remains of her mirror. She saw something glowing beneath the remains of her mirror. Kya cautiously picked up whatever it was and saw that it was only a necklace; it;s cord made out of gold chains and it's pendant is shaped like a trident, made out of silver and sapphire stones. Kya also saw that the necklace has a carving at it's back. She saw her name carved in gold, written cursively. It was really creepy because there was no one in her room but her. And no one could possibly have thrown that necklace from her window. Kya wore the necklace around her neck and had a feeling she had to keep it there.
Kya stared across her room. One part of it was a small workshop and a library. Her room was big enough to fit all of her things. Kya loves to read so her library was stacked with floor to ceeling with books, both in English and Greek. Her workshop were full of achitechural materials and paper that were scattered. The trashbin near the workshop was already overflowing with crumpled paper.
Kya went back to her balcony. Fresh sea breeze spread across her face. She had to smile. It's been a long time since she smelled fresh sea-wind. Then, she saw a carriage pull down by the gates of the palace. A footman opened the door and a familiar man stepped out of the carriage. "Father!" Kya exclaimed and waved. Okinawa smiled and waved back. Unable to control her happiness, Kya ran downstairs and towards the gates.
When Kya reached the gates, she ambushed Okinawa with a hug. "Daddy!" she screamed and tackled him. Okinawa's dark hair was now streaked with gray, symbolizing that thirteen years passed so quickly for him. He kept his promise to Aphrodite, To love Kya as his own daughter. He owes Aphrodite everything. Even his own happiness.
Okinawa smiled as he saw his daughter. He laughed and patted Kya's head. "Daddy, I thought you would be back before the 27th?" Kya asked.
"I wouldn't want to miss my own daughter's birthday, now would I?"Okinawa grinned. "and speaking of which, I convinced them to celebrate it with you"
"um, who are they, father?" Kya asked again.
"HEY, seaweed hair!" someone familiar behind her shouted. Kya spun around and saw a boy, about fourteen, with electric blue eyes and chestnut brown hair wearing a gray shirt, black winter parka, white pants, brown combat boots and a sword that's strapped to his back.
Kya's face broke to a grin. "Danzu!" she exclaimed, hugging her childhood friend. Danzu only smiled and hugged Kya back. "How's the little bookworm?" he asked. Kya chucked. "Fine. What about the sword geek?" asked Kya. "Never better" Danzu answered as he pulled away. "Though your're thirteen now, you're still the same old kid I know" he grinned. "Haha" Kya stuck out her tongue. "I'll see you both later. My councilors need me" Okinawa excused himself and walked away, towards the majestic palace.
"Alright, birthday girl, what do you want to do?"Danzu asked. Kya shrugged. "I have no idea. You?" she asked in response. Danzu held Kya's hand and ran, pulling her with him. "I have a surprise for you, though" Danzu said, grinning. "Where?" Kya asked. "You'll see" Danzu said, his eyes gleaming.
Danzu and Kya stopped in front of a huge wooden barn painted red and white with a single window at the second floor. "Danzu," Kya sighed. "this is the stables" "I know" Danzu rolled his eyes. "the surprise is inside"
"oh. right" Kya blushed. "Ready?" Danzu asked. Kya nodded nervously. She closed her eyes. She felt Danzu take her hand and led her inside the stables. Her heart raced. She was alone with Danzu. What could possibly happen to her?
"Okay," she heard Danzu whisper to her ear. "Open your eyes.."
Kya let out a small whimper. Was she ready for this? She slowly opened her eyes and saw a horse with a white coat and silver mane and tail. What was unusual about the horse was it's gigantic bird wings.
"A Pegasus?" Kya exclaimed. "How did you caught one?"
"Me and Ace caught her. Her name's Moonlight and she's yours" Danzu smiled. "Danzu, thank you!" Kya exclaimed and hugged him. She pulled away quickly. "Let's try her out" Danzu suggested. "I'm afraid of heights" Kya whimpered again. "It's alright" Danzu grinned. "I'll take the reins"
Soaring in the skies was a great experience to Danzu, especially that Kya's gripping his waist tightly, though he can hardly breathe. "Kya, are you alright?" he asked his passenger. Kya only nodded but she was too distracted about where they were flying. "This is incredible!" she shouted."I've never been outside the palace borders before"
"You should come with me often" Danzu suggested. "I go to Athens every weekend"
"I can't" Kya murmured. "I can't go outside the palace borders. That's the rule"
"Come on" Danzu pleaded. "It's just me" "Then ask my dad. Maybe he'll say yes" Kya suggested. "Great idea" Danzu grinned. "I'll ask your dad for permission" he chucked.
Then, the sky suddenly darkened. Danzu felt a cold chill blow over the Northern Skyline. Kya felt it too. "We need to head back" she said quickly. "You read my mind" Danzu said. He turned the Pegasus around and headed back to the Kingdom of the North.
