Ah, yes...The Mark of Athena. The next book in Rick Riordan's smash series is coming out this fall, and it's high time we try to figure out what's going to happen.
1. First on the list, PROPHECIES.
"Seven half-bloods shall answer the call.
To storm or fire the world must fall.
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death."
"Seven half-bloods shall answer the call."
First, SEVEN. No other campers will be joining the quest. It confuses me when fanfiction writers include so many other characters on the boat when the prophecy clearly states SEVEN.
Half-bloods. That means NO LEGACIES. Too bad Octavian. Go die in a hole.
"To storm or fire the world must fall."
Storm=thunderstorm AND/OR seastorm. Which implies Jason and Percy.
Fire=Leo AND/OR the child of Athena. ("The Mark of Athena burns through Rome.") Athena could burn. You never know.
Has it ever occurred to anybody that when you look at a globe (A.K.A. THE WORLD) it is covered in EARTH and WATER. Percy could go down with Gaea...
"An oath to keep with a final breath,"
Mars gave us a few hints as to what the oath might be. He said that Percy is too loyal to his friends. Implying he gave himself an oath to protect them.
Also, Gaea had some oaths too. She swore to take Percy and kill some people one way or another. Will she kill someone, but then die?
Giants could have also made the oath too. They could die for making a future oath.
The oath also possibly hasn't even happened yet. Keep your eyes open.
"And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death."
Foes. Romans. Greeks. Obvious. But where are the Doors of Death? Rome or Greece?
"Wisdom's daughter walks alone,
the Mark of Athena burns through Rome."
Wisdom's daughter. Athena or Minerva. Many assume it will be Annabeth who takes the seventh spot, but if she isn't, then what? It could very well be a new character, a Greek or Roman. It did say she walks alone. She could be on her way to Camp Jupiter, her journey to prove herself.
What is the Mark of Athena? It has to do with fire in some way, shape, or form. This also gives away the seven will be in Rome this book. Could it be the bird-shaped mark for murder that Daedalus had?
2. Characters
Leo/Sammy
Is it Leo? Is it Sammy? No one knows! Hazel is the only witness of Sammy being alive, but why do they look so much alike if they are not the same person? Will Hazel choose Frank or Leo/Sammy?
Percy
A lot of theories reside around the main character of the series. Percy. We already know Reyna has a particular interest in him (a LOVE interest!) and Annabeth might not even be on the boat. An trust me, we all want to know what Annabeth says when she sees him in a toga... Also, will he be corrupted by Gaea? Will he fall into her trap? Knowing him, most likely ;).
Piper-Jason-Reyna
This is the most confusing. Who will Jason choose?!? It's way too close to call, but I'm personally a Team Piper. So we'll end it at that.
3. Rome
What exactly is going to happen in Rome? Are the Doors of Death there? Leave to Rick Riordan to leave us hanging...
4. The Argo II
Did Leo even have enough time to finish it? I mean, did he have to rush and sloppily make it? I sense a possible breakdown...
5. Death
The question we all wanna know. Who is going to die? All of them? None of them? One? Two? Three?!?! Possible theories...
Percy
He is known for making rash decisions. Will he make the wrong one this time? Will Annabeth kill herself if he dies? Will Gaea kill him to show her superior strength?
Annabeth
Will she die of grief (as said above), or will she carry on for his legacy? If Percy does die, will she ever get over him? Will Gaea kill her using Percy as bait?
Frank
Will his stick burn out for good? Will it be Leo's fault? Hazel's? He is insanely strong too though, highly unlikely death in battle.
Hazel
Will she sacrifice herself to rescue Nico? Grief from (possibly) killing Frank?
Leo/Sammy-Jason-Piper
These three seem to be the three most unlikely people to die, which in Rick Riordan's case, easiest to kill off. Death in battle for these three?
Nico
Captured by Gaea, torture? Death? No one knows.
All of them.
It could take all of their lives to win. Hmm...
