My Hero, Nick Jonas
It was Christmas break of 2007 when I realized how much I loved the Jonas Brothers. I could easily dance to their music, which is a big plus, and I could relate to the lyrics one way or another. Over the past year and an half I've learned things that I never thought I would from the youngest band member, Nick Jonas. He has and keeps showing me that nothing can get in the way of your dreams, how to treat fans, and how music can touch the heart.
One thing I admire the most about Nick is that he never lets anything get in the way of his dream. In 2005, just before the release of their first album It's About Time, Nick was diagnosed with diabetes. Since then, he has not let that slow him down. For example, he and his brothers have started in two movies, Camp Rock and Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience, they have their own television show, JONAS, on the Disney Channel, they are on their third head-lining tour ,their first staring in January of 2008, and they just release their forth album, Lines, Vine and Trying Times. He also wrote a song called "A Little Bit Longer", which is about his diabetes, and every night that he plays it, just before the end, he says, “This song is for all the broken hearts. This song is for all the lost dreams. And this song at I’m singing for you tonight is for all of you here. I’ve heard stories that I’m their inspiration. But the truth is… you’re my inspiration.”
Another thing I admire is his compassion towards his fans. In every interview that I've seen, he has always said something about his fans. They always want to give back as
much as they can to them. On their last tour, The Burning Up Tour, they would give some fans in the way back of the venue tickets to the front and passes to meet them. If a show has sold out very fast; they would give a free acoustic show in front of a radio station or someplace. It kind-of feels like it's an honor to be called a Jonas Brothers fan because of they way the treat us.
One other thing I admire is how his songs are from the heart. They write about things that they have gone thought; most of them are about love and broken hearts. With the song "Much Better", which is about how their fans are much better, they wrote about Joe's previous relationships with Taylor Swift,"I have a rep for braking hearts, now I'm done with superstars, and the tears on her guitar, but I'm not bitter". And, my personal favorite,"Turn Right"; a song about how life is a race track and everyone keeps turning left, but if you turn right I'll be there for you, "Turn right, into my arms, turn right, you won't be alone, you might, fall off this track some times, hope to see you on finish line". Also "Before the Storm", a song Nick sings with his ex-girlfriend Miley Cyrus about their past and somewhat future relationships, "I'm standing out in the rain, I need to know if it's over, cause I will leave you alone, flooded with all this pain, knowing that I'll never hold ya, like I did before the storm ". For him being only a year older that me, his music and lyrics is something I can connect to because we all go threw the same thing.
Some people don't see how Nick has been a hero to me because they only think tween Disney star when I talk about him and that they can't see the reason behind my OJD (obsessive Jonas disorder), but one day, hopefully, they will regret it as they see me on the same stage as him and his brothers being their opening act.
