NOT EVEN A QUARTER MOON WENT BY, and by now, we knew almost everyone in the Clan. One day, a small, pale ginger she-cat walked in.
"Hello, Goldenpaw," Leopardfoot greeted the she-cat.
"Hi, Leopardfoot," the she-cat--Goldenpaw--mewed. "I'm here to change the bedding." Leopardfoot scooted us up. Nightkit drowsily got up, since she was finishing her nap. While I leaped up from the nest, my sisters slowly walked behind. I had grown stronger and improved well, as Featherwhisker had said. I gave a questioning look.
"How is it, being a warrior?" I asked Goldenpaw.
Leopardfoot purred. "She's not a warrior, yet. Goldenpaw is an apprentice."
Goldenpaw nodded. "Hence being a 'paw."
I noticed a nick on Goldenpaw's ears. "What happened to your ears?"
"Tigerkit!" my mother hissed at me. "It's rude to stare!"
"No, it's okay," Goldenpaw defended. "Well, Tigerkit, back when Bluefur wa an apprentice, her and I were practicing battle moves. She accidently clawed me in the ears, but it's okay. Stormtail said that Moonflower would've been proud of Bluefur."
Leopardfoot had told me that Moonflower was Bluefur and her sister, Snowfur's, mother. Moonflower had died in a battle at WindClan a few moons ago, and Bluefur was still shadowed with grief.
"Goldenpaw," a she-cat's voice rose from outside the den. "Is the bedding replaced?"
"Dappletail!" Goldenpaw sighed. "I'd better get this bedding."
"Take your time!" Leopardfoot reassured.
When Goldenpaw finished, she hurried out. "Sweetpaw isn't doing well," she told Leopardfoot, "in case you were wondering. Also, today, Thistlepaw fought a Twoleg dog!"
"A dog!" Leopardfoot jolted up. "What a brave tom!"
"Pinestar says he will be named warrior."
"Can I watch?" I wanted to see this, Thistlepaw, become a warriors.
Leopardfoot nodded. "We'll all watch, but stay close to the nursery."
"Okay," I squeaked.
"Come, little ones," Leopardfoot led us out of the nursery. I've seen the clearing before, but I had to stay withing the boundaries of the nursery. Now, I could actually be outside!
Goldenpaw fixed in new bedding, and then she came to join us. We sat at something called Highrock. Leopardfoot said that it was where the Clanmates met when the leader called meetings. At the top of the rather large rock, there was Pinestar. Next to him was Sunfall, the deputy. He was second-in-command, and he caled patrols. Just below them, sat a gray tom--with a white tipped tail, three black legs, white flash on his muzzle, and black tipped ears--with unusually spiky fur. That must be Thistlepaw.
In the crowd, I saw Bluefur. She's a bluish gray warriors. Her sister, Snowfur, sat besideher, Snowfur's blue eyes glowing at Thistlepaw. Pinestar leapt down from Highrock.
Everyone was cheering, joyed by the apprentice's achievements.
"From this moment," Pinestar meowed to Thistlepaw, "you will be known as Thistleclaw. StarClan honors your bravery and fighting skill. ThunderClan will always remember your courage today, and we welcome you as a warrior. Serve your Clan well."
Pinestar pressed his muzzle to Thistleclaw's head. Thistleclaw stood up with pride, as he stalked through the clearing. Snowfur then walked over to him.
"Congratulations," she whispered, purring, "Thistleclaw."
Thistleclaw purred with amusement.
"I love you," she mewed. Snowfur then pressed her muzzle to Thistleclaw's.
"I love you, too," Thistleclaw whispered.
*Yuck!* Seeing that, I couldn't help being disgusted. Even Bluefur seemed edgy.
"Come, little one," Leopardfoot's voice startled me. "It's time for bed."
As I left for the nursery, I heard Pinestar meow, "Thank you, all of you."
*You're welcome,* I answered in my head, unaware of what he was thankful for. *I want to be a great leader, just like my dad!*
"She won't wake up! She won't wake up!"
That was the first thing I heard when I woke up the next morning. I looked up at my surroundings. Mistkit and Nightkit were still asleep. Leopardfoot also slept soundly. Next to her, Swiftbreeze slept, too. Swiftbreeze slept in the nursery last night, fearing for Leopardfoot. Then, there were sudden yowls of distress. *What was this all about?*
I snuck away from the nest. My grandmother had ears like an owl's, so I tried my best to sneak out so Swiftbreeze wouldn't hear me. As I got out, I tripped over my tail, tumbling out of the tunnel. I landed on the ground with a squeaked. Hot with embarrassment, I got up quickly.
I recognized Sunfall, the ThunderClan deputy, as he stalked over to greet me.
"Hey, there!" the bright ginger tom exclaimed. "Are you Tigerkit?"
I slightly nodded. I then looked over to the grieving cats outside a little den. Among them, Bluefur looked over solemnly, and Thistleclaw bowed his head. Poppydaw, a dark red she-cat, had tears of mourning in her eyes. *I better ask, quick!*
"What's going on?" I asked.
Sunfall looked at me, gravely. "Sweetpaw's dead."
*Poor she-cat.* I knew she had a belly ache, but I didn't know it was so serious.
"Was she a warrior?" I tipped my head to the side.
"Tigerkit!" *Busted!* It was Swiftbreeze, hopping out of the nursery. "What are you doing out here?"
"I wanted to know why everyone was awake," I stuttered.
Swiftbreeze licked at my head. *Gross!* "I can see you're going to be the inquisitive one." My grandmother was now talking to Sunfall. "He was the weakest of the litter, and now he's the strongest."
I scoffed. "I was never the weakest!"
Swiftbreeze purred. "Of course not, little one."
She then picked me up by my scruff. I hated being picked up. *I can walk by myself!*
"Found him!" Swiftbreeze grunted through her teeth, as she let me down at my mother's side.
"Thank StarClan!" Leopardfoot exclaimed, as she cleaned me vigorously.
"Gross!" I exclaimed.
"What were you doint out there by yourself?" my mother scolded. "I looked over to my side and you were gone! I was worried sick!"
"I'm sorry," I pleaded, "I just wanted to see what everyone was talking about."
"What did Sunfall say?"
Leopardfoot bowed her head. "She hunts with StarClan, now," she sighed.
"I'm sorry, Leopardfoot," I pleaded again.
My mother pressed her muzzle to my head. "I know."
I heard Sunfall planning patrols outside. *Soon, I will be the one making patrols.* I squirmed, trying ot fit in the nest.
"Ouch!" I heard Nightkit rasp in pain. "Watch it, runt!"
Mistkit and Nightkit were showing gauntness on their faces. They were very weak, and Featherwhisker said that they wouldn't make it to be a moon old. I suddenly felt bad for them, even though they teased me so much.
*When I become leader, I will make sure you are remembered.*...
