The Moulin Rouge is arguably the most eminent cabaret on earth. It was constructed by Joseph Oller in 1889, who also was the proprietor of the renowned Paris Olympia. The name Moulin Rouge roughly translates to ‘red windmill.’ During this time period, one of the music hall's most noteworthy regulars was artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, who painted many legendary Moulin Rouge scenes.
