Cherrykit blinked open her eyes, and squirmed restlessly in her nest. She felt two warm bodies squieshed against her, and she batted them away with her tiny paws. She backed up and felt a bigger, warmer body behind her. She turned around, breathng in her mother's familiar scent, and gazed up at Fairstep. She was a lean, long-bodied golden tabby she-cat with a fluffy tail. Cherrykit looked back at her own pelt, disappointed to find it was a orange tabby color, and her was fluffy, not sleek like Fairstep's. She wobbled a few paces forward, then saw the big shape of her brother, Rainkit. He was a big black-and-grey tabby tom. Beside him, Tawnykit, her other sister, was curled in a tight ball, her tortioshell fur fluffing up against the cool night breezes drifting through the nursery. Cherrykit lifted her head, and stared around the wide nursery. Another scent tickled her nose, and she saw a big lump of golden fur with brown spots. Leopardspirit, she thought, remembering her mother saying the she-cat's name. Then her eyes directed her to a fluffy mound of pale grey fur. She didnt know the queen's name. Cherrykit yawned wide, and suddenly noticed the big balls of fur in Leopardspirit's nest. Cherrykit shook her head, and turned around slowly, her big kit paws making it hard. A dark shape loomed in front of her. Two bundles of fur layed by her belly, and Cherrykit reocgnized the red-golden she-cat as Arrowkit, and the tortioshell tom as Robinkit. Cherrykit was awakened by a paw prodding her side. She curled up and opened her eyes, seeing Rainkit's intense dark blue eyes staring down at her. "Do i have blue eyes?" she thought and scrambled to her paws. Tawnykit yawned,"Great! Your up! Now we can go out!" Cherrykit caught a glimpse of her sister's amber eyes as she flung past Cherrykit. "Not so fast..." came a clear voice and a paw dropped itself on Cherrykit's tail. "Fairstep!" Cherrykit gasped. "What are you three doing?" Fairstep asked, blinking open her clear blue eyes. "Going out!" Tawnykit replied. "Dont wake Shadesong... she just kitted two days ago..." Fairstep yawned and all three kits nodded. Cherrykit led the way out of the nursery. Rainkit pushed past her, and his eyes drifted to the sky, which was a breath-taking pink-orange with blueish white clouds puffing and floating on it. "Its beautiful..." Tawnykit breathed, blinking her eyes as if making sure it was real. Cherrykit reared on her hind paws, and batted her paws in the air, trying to touch one of the fluffy clouds. Then she sat back, and all three of them sat down, gazing at the dawn sky. "Its beautiful, isnt it?" a deep voice sounded from behind them. Cherrykit whirld around to see a big black tom with brown tabby stripes and amber eyes looking down at them. "Bramblefrost!" Tawnykit squealed. Bramblefrost nodded,"Surely Fairstep has told you who i am?" Cherrykit shook her head, but Tawnykit and Rainkit nodded. Bramblefrost licked Cherrykit's head," Im your father, little one..." he murmured and sat back. Cherrykit fluffed out her fur," Im going to be the best warrior LightningClan has ever seen!" she announced. "Im sure you will be..." Bramblefrost chuckled, then stood up. "Where are you going?" Rainkit asked. "Im a warrior, young one. I must do warrior chores." he meowed and Rainkit blinked sadly. The tabby warrior padded away toward a pretty light yellow tabby she-cat with cats surrounding her, their tails flicking. Suddenly a slight booming echoed in Cherrykit's ears. "Ive heard Fairstep and Shadesong talking about this..." Tawnykit hissed into her ear. "Its thunder, and a storms coming." "Then we better get in before Fair-..." Rainkit stopped when Fairstep poked her head out,"Come in kits." she said quickly, her eyes flickering nervously at the darkening sky. Cherrykit was pushed in as a horrible loud sound pelted the nursery outside. "Whats that?" she asked, not one bit afraid but more excited. "Thats rain. And that loud booming noise is thunder. The storm that Solarflight predicted finally came..." Fairstep huddled her kits close as another loud crack of thunder screamed overhead. Cherrykit didnt know what happened next because she quickly fell asleep, the rapid but soothing beat of the rain calming her down.
