West Side Story, for a number of reasons, is in a special class all by itself, and those who said and who say that there'll never be another movie like WSS are right on their money.

A) The dancing, which was beautifully choreographed by Jerome Robbins was absolutely magnificent, and expressed the various emotions in West Side Story fantastically. Some of it made me smile, some if it made me laugh out loud, some of WSS put me on the edge of my seat, and other parts made me tear up.

B) The intensely brilliant Leonard Bernstein musical score, as well as the richly-colored costumes and photography, which seem even more intense and seem to enable one to see all of the scenery when shown on a great big, wide screen, in a real movie theatre, with the lights down low.

C) The very story behind West Side Story is a story that helped make this great movie/musical classic what it is.

D) Everytime I attend a showing of West Side Story, it feels very new to me; be it on screen or on stage, because I notice something new every time.

E) The creators of West Side Story fought the good fight to preserve this dynamic musical and to keep it the way it presently is, therefore managing to keep it from becoming a cheap, up-to-date remake of itself. imho, a remake of WSS would totally cut the heart and soul right out of it. Some classics are meant to be left as they are, and West Side Story is certainly one of them.

F) The fact that most of the cast for the movie was composed of very talented actors/actresses who'd performed in the original Broadway stage productions of West Side Story is another reason that West Side Story is so great.

G) Although I've seen the movie West Side Story more times than I can count now, as well as a half-dozen good stage productions of this great musical, I never tire of seeing WSS, be it on TV, or, especially, on the great big wide screen, in a real movie theatre, with the lights down low.

H) After all is said and done, I believe that the MGM quote "Unlike other classics, West Side Story grows younger" is so true!

To paraphrase my title, West Side Story is the classic that never grows old.

The film's leading actor Richard Beymer is not in the video and also leading lady Natalie Wood because as you know that she died by drowning on the night on November 28 1981, her body was found the next day on the 29th.
