Note: Part of this article is a re-post of an article I wrote in 2017, and the rest was written in 2020.
Emer Prevost was the host of a film review show called "Reaction and Review." He also reviewed comic books in a show called "What's in the Box?"
Emer Prevost's YouTube career lasted several years. He reviewed films on his film review show that he hadn't seen before. He reviewed films that he was interested in seeing including some films he thought would be really good and several films that he thought would be bad.
Emer Prevost's show was unique. Most film reviewers review the newest films. Emer reviewed several different types of films which made his film review show interesting and special. He would often have a month dedicated to a particular theme. For example, he had an annual tradition of reviewing superhero films for a month.
He reviewed so many different kinds of films. He didn't seem to feel the need, to review the major blockbusters that everybody knew. He reviewed several obscure films that I didn't know about. In fact, he's the one who introduced me to the Filipino Batman film, which has become one of my favorite superhero films.
Emer Prevost also had a show where he reviewed comic books. He got comic books in a box. The interesting thing about that show is that Emer didn't know which comic books would be in the box each month which led to him getting amusingly angry at getting so many Valiant comic books.
Emer Prevost had a good sense of humor. At times, he was flat-out hilarious. One of my favorite bits from him was when he received a book, that he thought was so bad, that he threw it into the garbage can. In the video, you could hear the sound of the book being flung into the garbage can. Often, he would sell stuff he didn't want, but according to him, the only place that book belonged in was the garbage can.
Emer was somewhat of a controversial critic. Some people loved his content, while others were offended by his often harsh statements about the films he didn't like and the celebrities who made them. I can't defend certain things he's said over the years, but what I can defend is his dedication to his fans. He cared about his fans and the end of his 9 review proved that. 9 was an animated film and it was the film he reviewed for his 600th episode of his Reaction and Review show. At the end of the video, Emer made a touching speech thanking his fans.
I had the honor of getting to write to Emer, online and having him answer a couple of questions. He answered two questions I had about his show. Getting written responses from someone, who I had been a fan of for years, was nothing short of fantastic. I still cherish that memory.
Emer Prevost sadly had a short life. He died while in his 30's, in 2017, due to health problems.
3 years later, I still remember Emer fondly. Things haven't been the same without him, but thankfully, he is not forgotten. I checked the comments for his last video and it was filled with fans of him, who were talking about how much they miss him and how much they liked him. It was truly touching to see and considering how toxic YouTube comments can get, it was nice to see YouTube comments being used for something meaningful.
Thank you, Emer Prevost, for your dedication to your fans and for being a really fun reviewer. I miss you. Rest well, old chum.
