Writing Question

How to cite inspiration?

A short story by Edith Wharton was the jumping off point for a trio of short stories I'm writing. It's not a fanfic, and I'm not using her or anyone else's characters. Should I give her credit?

you don't necessarily have to but you could in the letter from the author if you want to what I've read in most books I've read authors say were they got their inspiration and give their thoughts etc.
and thats what i most likely would do since you'd be helping each others business
