Actress Mitzie Pratt
Actress Mitzie Pratt
Everybody has that one person in their life who can just tell it like it is. Well, in the new original Amazon Prime drama series “#LoveMyRoomie,” that voice of reason is Mimi Clarke.

Portrayed by Jamaican actress Mitzie Pratt, Mimi delivers some tough love and a helping hand as the surrogate aunt to a young woman and her roommates coping with the everyday struggles of adulthood.

Currently based in New York, Mitzie also recently teamed up with fellow Jamaican filmmaker Demedrius Charles to star in his dramatic action short film, “Maneuver.” Since gaining momentum on the festival circuit, this duo plans to reunite expanding the project into a limited series. They're also working on a full-length feature based on an earlier short film, “Crave."

In between projects, Mitzie Pratt took time to answer a few questions for us.

Tell us about your role as Mimi Clarke in “#LoveMyRoomie”.

MITZIE: Well, MiMi is the voice of reason for the three ladies. She’s like a surrogate aunt who lives vicariously through them. However, she’s completely “no nonsense” when they seem to take advantage of her kindness.

What would you consider Mimi’s ‘best’ quality? And, her ‘worst’?

MITZIE: I think MiMi’s best quality would be her kind and compassionate nature subdued beneath her enigmatic persona.

At her worse, she becomes indifferent to chaos and conflicts.

Any interesting stories from the set you can share with us?

MITZIE: Yeah, we (some cast/crew) stayed in one of the actual apartments that was used to film as MiMi’s brownstone home. In my opinion, cohabitating was a great bonding experience living with my peers. Even though it only lasted for a few days the closeness of sharing rooms and common spaces was really fun.

You also portray a strong female starring in the short “Maneuver”; tell us about that role.

MITZIE: Sure, I play Della Maze, a strategic forensic accountant. She is excellent at her job and has proven herself on many occasions to be a woman with the uncanny ability to Maneuver her way out of any challenge. So, the story follows Della as she is brought into the company to take a deep dive into their finances. What she discovers are shady dealings by the head of the company, who becomes a threating adversary.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from working on either of these projects?

MITZIE: I would say working off other actors and being able to follow the vision of a director. It’s for me the key to being available, showing up prepared and being open to the creative process.

And, now just for fun:

Who’s your favorite actor/actress?

MITZIE: Denzel Washington and Cecily Tyson

What role from the past do you wish you could have played?

MITZIE: I am very fortunate to have played some very interesting and challenging roles that have all enriched me.

Favorite movie or TV show from your childhood.

MITZIE: “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” (TV).

Tell us one thing that would surprise our readers to learn about you.

MITZIE: Maybe that I raced cars (Drag racing & Crossing).

How can fans keep up with you?

MITZIE: I am assessable on social media platforms
