I wrote this in the SPN's fan spot and I'm sure it will attract lot's of scream, hate and rejection. I still need opinions-what's better place than at the Adam's fan spot.
Okay so we are past episode 13 and we have heard the word ‘Adam’ once. Strangely, that too in the coldest manner possible!
I get that Sam will be Dean’s breath even though they will be old guys, eventually.
Because Dean practically raised Sam since he was a baby so the attachment has no equivalent substitute. I being a big brother feel the same way. However one thing is beyond even my acceptance is that the way script is portraying the role of a big brother now.
I started to watch this show since it first aired officially in my country (and is technically still airing S05) but continued till now (college) and I loved this show. Not because Dean or Sam looks hot or because I’m gay and drool over them. Nor for hot babes they encounter, neither for the Godly (and blasphemous) story!
But ONLY and ONLY because they show the dynamic of the most important aspect of human life- family in the midst of such chaos. We can almost run parallels (oh come on, we deal with our inner demons daily).
The show excellently portrayed the life of two brothers having each other back. This aspect is very much real and yes it is that much emotional too (at least I can say that for my brothers). I know in U.S, male populace don’t favour to express emotions openly but that doesn’t mean they don’t feel. There must be real life brothers who are fans of the show and care for each other. I’m sure many of guys admit quietly and admire the brotherly love (which fan-fic tend to exaggerate to many more levels... just joking! :P)
My point is, after some time they introduced a new brother. Okay, half-brother... but a brother. Then they killed him, brought him back and then threw in a bottomless pit. One moment he is the centre of envy, next pity and then care and last acceptance! But as we open our eyes for the newest life he is not even mentioned once.
I mean, what’s with the shallow brotherly care? If you are a real big brother, you would never weigh you emotion for you younger siblings (until one of them is bent on killing you... again a bad joke). And Dean tends to do the very same thing... way too coldly.
I ask the fans. Do you really think that Sam (now 28, story wise) is the same Sam of 2005 and will move our hearts with puppy eyes and “You are my big brother... I will do anything for you... etc etc.” and Dean’s(32) same concern for Sam (even though he technically can be a Dad?).
I mean come on, introducing a younger brother (who luckily exists in canon) who is cared by both the brothers won’t open up new facets of relationship to be explored in the show?
Sam will really be able to feel what’s it’s like to be a big brother. He will learn how Dean must cope with Sam’s rash and stubborn actions at time!
I know the exclusive fan-girl trend won’t go away and many won’t accept a third member. But don’t they think even for a millisecond that Adam is really a younger brother of Winchesters...and he doesn’t deserve that fate in the pit. I don’t expect that Dean would immediately invite him to hop in the car and burn and salt some ass. But at least the room for various dramas that we all enjoy would be plausible and ethical.
And for now, as I write this; in my mind Dean and Sam are doing the opposite, they are practically breaking the basic conducts of a big brother. This is unacceptable, unethical and cruel.
