Mina smirked and raised her fist into the air, shouting out with triumph as she annihilated another infected that sped past. “Hell yes! Take that you son of a bitch!” I laughed quietly and shot her a playful smile over my shoulder from the driver’s seat. “Well, you’ve certainly got an eye for firearms.” The surroundings were a blur as I drove our SUV convertible along the main crossroads, zombies attempting to chase the vehicle but being halted in their tracks by Mina’s shotgun. My hands were grasped firmly around the wheel and my foot was almost glued to the acceleration pedal. The sounds of undead moans sounded from all around us, and the sky was beginning to grow dark now. “Hey Mina, left at the next crossroads right?” She took a brief pause to hail a rain of bullets down onto a group of pursuing infected, before turning around and giving a curt nod. “Yeah, we should be arriving at the Vannah soon enough.” I nodded and continued to drive, carefully pushing some hair from my face with my hand whilst steering with the other. The continuous noise of gunfire echoed through the alleyways as the corpses of infected littered the streets. Any signs of other survivors were non existent and I sighed quietly to myself, keeping my hazel orbs fixed onto the road. We’d been driving for miles and found absolutely nothing, but we had to keep going or we’d end up as zombie chow. The road was winding straight ahead so I gazed out of the window, trying to grasp hold of the current situation. Mina reloaded her shotgun, groaning with slight annoyance and shaking some hair from her face. “Ugh,great. I’m almost out of ammo.” Her eyes suddenly widened and her mouth opened to release a high pitched cry. “SOPHIE, LOOK OUT!”
As an immediate response, my head whipped round to look forward and I slammed my foot onto the brake pedal with as much force as I could. A Tank was charging towards us, its colossal arms obliterating the infected into the asphalt and its deafening roars making my eardrums vibrate rapidly. Mina turned her attention away from the back of the SUV towards the Tank, beginning to empty her gun magazine into it at a frantic pace. “Shit! We’ve got to move!” No sooner had the words left my mouth, the screeching of the SUV tyres sounded out as I floored the acceleration, trying to outrun the monstrous entity in pursuit. More and more bodies of the infected were being hurled aside, causing the windshield to be splattered with blood. I heard Mina cry out slightly with frustration as the sound of gunfire quickly ceased. “No! I’m out of ammo!” If even possible, the vehicle moved even faster as I knew we were slowly moving towards deaths door. Mina gripped onto the back seat, trying to shield herself from the debri being thrown towards us. “Dammit! This fucker won’t give up will he!?” I opened my mouth to respond, but in the next moment, a cry of surprise sounded out instead as the SUV was lifted from the street. A piercing roar echoed from behind Mina and myself, and the next thing I knew, my head whiplashed back into the seat as the Tank sent us hurtling through the air. My scream resounded with Mina’s as the vehicle contacted the side of a building with a sickening crunch, landing upside down with us both pinned underneath the wreckage. I whimpered in pain and weakly tried to move, realising that my entire body was constricted by the twisted metal of the vehicle. I suddenly thought of Mina, quickly moving my head so that I could catch a slight glimpse of her and speaking out with a fragile voice. “M…Mina….are you alright?” She was pinned down underneath the back seat, her limp body showing that she was unconscious and a huge scratch was displayed across her face. Her left arm was sprawled out onto the floor at an awkward angle, immediately signalling to me that it was broken. I whimpered again and tried to reach my hand out to her, feeling a droplet of blood pool run down onto my cheek as my hair began to soak up the crimson liquid. The earth shook violently as the Tank moved closer, continuing to growl dangerously. I slowly closed my eyes and tried to ignore the dampness of blood around my head, waiting for it all to end. “Man up,we got a Tank!”
A deep voice with a slight Boston accent rang out around the area, followed by the sound of heavy gunfire. From underneath the darkness of the wreckage, the ground lit up and the heavy grunts of the monstrosity bore into me, and I tried to obtain a closer look. I could barely make out the two figures as they fought with all their strength, one dressed in an expensive looking white suit and blue shirt, whilst the other was clad in a smart black suit and tie. Even for just a second, I felt some sort of relief, to know that Mina and myself weren’t the only survivors out there. The gunfire soon subsided and the earth shook once more, as the Tank’s corpse pounded against the street. Blowing away some smoke from his gun, the figure in black chuckled lightly. “Well that takes care of that.” His gaze suddenly swivelled towards the wreckage of our vehicle, and I held my breath for a slight moment, knowing that I was too weak to cry out for help. He casually strolled forwards, his head held high and his posture slightly tense.
“Hey Nick, come and have a look at this.” The other man joined him at his side, crouching down slightly to improve his view. His white suit was covered with small blood stains and I noticed that he had barely noticeable claw marks on his chest, near his throat. “Well shit. What the hell happened here?” He was so close that I could hear his breathing, so I weakly moved my hand, laying my head down onto the floor because I knew the attempt was futile. To my surprise, his breathing rhythm suddenly slowed dramatically, and he quickly raised himself back into a standing position. “Kid, quickly. Help me move the car.” I wanted to smile with triumph as I knew he was aware of our presence, but I didn’t have the energy in me to. The wreckage began to loosen from my body, and grunts of tedious strength sounded from back outside. An instant wave of relief washed over me, but was quickly overcome by pain as my injuries became apparent. I could feel myself breathing at a slow pace, and my heartbeat thudded in my chest. The man in black, Kid, spoke once again, in a surprisingly calm tone. “One of them is unconscious, and it looks like her arm is broken. Shall I take her back to the safe room?” The figure in the white suit, now known as Nick, nodded slowly and cursed under his breath as Kid gently lifted Mina up into his arms. “Goddamn it, CEDA is going to fucking pay.” From the corner of my eye, I saw Kid supporting Mina carefully as they both disappeared into the darkness. The pain in my head was getting worse and by now, my blonde hair was matted with soaked up blood. I heard Nick slowly lean down and felt him press his fingers gently against my cold neck, sighing with relief. “It’s alright sweetheart, I've got you.” His voice sent shivers down my spine and I weakly opened my eyes in order to get a better look at him. Piercing green eyes gazed back into my own, and his darkened brown hair was slicked back off of his face. I felt my heart thudding more frequently in my chest as his handsomeness immediately struck into me, making my head suddenly throb with pain. I whimpered slightly, lying my head back down against the floor to try and block out the unpleasant vibes. He gently moved some blood matted hair from my face, and I shivered ever so slightly as the cold metal of his rings contacted my skin. He slowly bent down and fixed his arms around my fragile form, gently pulling me up against his chest. The warmth of his body was comforting and I rested my head against his muscled abdomen, wincing once again as my head pulsated. He brushed his stubbled cheek against my hair, and I felt his breath whisper into my ear as I slowly started to fade into darkness. “Just hold on sweetie, hold on…”
