I was speechless. Looking from Blair's hand intertwined with my own I slowly let my other hand drop from his cheek.
"Well?" Tanner asked. He crossed his arms across his chest and tapped his foot.
Finally regaining my ability to think I pushed Blair away from me. He stumbled back and fell into a chair as if he was made of lead. We stared at each other still speechless.
"Are you going to say something or just stare deeply into each others eyes." Tanner snapped. He was clearly upset.
After opening and closing my mouth for a few seconds, trying to regain my speaking ability, I finally talked. "This isn't what it looks like?"
Tanner slapped his forehead. "Of course not!" He said sarcastically. "And I'm having hard core sex with a playboy bunny."
Blair smirked. "That would be so sweet."
We glanced at him for a second then Tanner looked at me. "Really. If I'm interrupting something I will gladly leave."
"Tanner I..."
He cut me off by holding his hand up. He started walking backwards. "No no. I don't want to ruin the moment."
"Tanner." I glared at him. "Seriously. We weren't doing anything."
He was already out of the room. "It was bound to happen sooner or later." He mumbled to himself.
Blair and I stared at each other. I was waiting for him to say something sarcastic. It didn't come.
"I hate you."
He stared at me with a look of utter confusion. "But I didn't do anything."
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah Blair. You never do anything wrong."
He stood up and narrowed his eyes at me. "Just like your perfect." He retorted sarcastically.
I raised my lip. "I never said I was perfect."
He walked past me forcefully bumping into me as he did so. "You sure as hell implied it."
He started walking up the stairs. "Your an asshole!" I yelled after him.
"Your a bitch!"
Then the door to Tanners room slammed. I was all alone in my kitchen. Grabbing my glass of water I sat at my table and sighed. What a terrible day this turned out to be. All because of stupid Blair and his stupid existence.
"Just put yourself in my new shoes. And see that I do all I do. Because the old god still offends." My phone rang from my back pocket. "They got nothing left on which we depend. So enlist every ounce of your bright blood. And off with their heads."
I had made my ring tone Sleeping Lessons by The Shins after Tanner had bought me their first album for my birthday two years before. I had always meant to change it but never got around to it. Pure laziness is the reason.
"Hi Janet." I greeted my best friend sadly.
Janet isn't one to beat around the bush. So normally when she bombards me with questions I'm not surprised. But this time I was most definitely surprised.
"What is this I hear about you and Blair hooking up?" She asked as if she was asking about the weather.
I almost choked on my water. "Excuses me?"
She sighed. "Don't play stupid."
I stuttered before saying "I'm not playing stupid." She was silent. "I just really am stupid!"
"You must be stupid if you think I'll fall for that."
"Janet." I practically pleaded. "I really don't know what your talking about."
"Really?" She asked.
I sighed with relief. "Yes really."
"Oh." She seemed somewhat surprised. "Well Tanner just texted me saying he saw you and Blair in the kitchen. And it didn't look like you were just talking."
"But we really were just talking!"
She clicked her tongue, one of her many habits. "I'm going to need the whole story."
I sighed and began telling her. I left out the part about me thinking he was attractive and fearing he would kiss me. After only two minuets I came to the end of our encounter.
"I was extremely pissed that he kiss my cheek again, as you could imagine, so I slapped him as hard as I could." I heard her make a disapproving noise. "And I hurt him so I was just seeing if he was okay, which involved close standing and the touching of his face. And then Tanner walked in and totally thought the worst."
Janet was silent for a few painfully long seconds. "Okay." She said. "I believe you."
I smiled. "Thank god."
"While we are on the subject of yours and Blair's relationship," I could tell I would dread what was coming next, "Why don't you do what he wants and become friends with him. It would make life just that much easier."
My smile turned into a frown. "Janet," I began, "Your my best friend. I think you of all people should know how I feel about him."
Janet sighed. "I know." She mumbled. "But I can just picture you two together. It's almost as if it's meant to be."
I couldn't help but smile. Not at the thought of Blair and I together, but at Janet's ideas. "We are meant to hate each other."
Janet shrugged, I could hear it. "I know." She sighed again. "But a girl can dream."
I laughed. "Well while you dream I'll be beating up Tanner."
She laughed with me. "Okay. Don't hurt him to bad."
"I'll try."
"Bye Kris."
"Bye." I hung up the phone and my smile turned into a look of pure anger.
Pushing my chair back from the table I stood. Then began walking slowly to Tanners room. I heard Blair yelling about something so I paused. I wasn't eavesdropping, I was simply walking by.
"I would never touch your sister unless she was okay with it." Blair yelled.
Great. They were talking about me.
"I didn't say you did." Tanner said calmly. "I simply asked you what happened."
Someone, I'm guessing Blair, sighed. "Nothing happened. Absolutely nothing."
"You seem disappointed." It was just like Tanner to try and fix everyone's problems. "Did you want something to happen."
Part of me prayed he said no. Simply because... Ew, Blair's a pig. And the other part wanted him to say yes. Just because it would feel nice to have someone like me. But the second part was very, very small.
"Dude!" Blair seemed disgusted at the thought. "No way! In case you haven't realized I hate her. And she clearly feels the same."
Sometimes I wanted to slap Tanner. "I don't think she hates you. And I know you don't hate her." It was because he said stuff like that.
I opened the door to his room. "Tanner you don't know anything."
They both seemed surprised to see me. Blair was laying on the bed and Tanner was sitting by his feet. Thier heads snapped up and their eyes followed me to the center of the room.
"And nothing happened in the kitchen." I yelled in Tanners face.
"I believe you." He said putting his hands up.
"Why did you tell Janet otherwise?"
He shrugged. "That was before Blair told me what happened."
I raised my eyebrows. "He told you I hurt him real bad?"
Tanner started laughing. "He said it didn't hurt."
Blair cleared his thought and we both looked at him. "He is sitting right here. And he is leaving." He got up walked to Tanners door. "He will see you two jackass's tomorrow."
I rolled my eyes for the final time that day. "Well make sure you tell him I'm sorry I slapped him, but he completely deserved it for popping my personal space bubble."
Blair smiled at me. "I will."
"Well?" Tanner asked. He crossed his arms across his chest and tapped his foot.
