Only wrote this during my first week of vacations, sorry:( But this is a big one:) To my very weird and amazing family



I had lost it all in just one year... Since I was seven that I knew how it was like to grow up without your family! I had lost my parents in the day that I turned seven and a year later, the only person that I still had died too. My grandmother never told me what had happened to my parents... All I could remember from my birthday was my grandmother coming to me and saying that the police had come and said that my parents were dead! I never asked more, part of me didn't believe that they were death and the other part went numb!!!! when I found out that I would never see my parents again!
A year later my grandmother got sick. The day she died, she called me to her room and said something that I never forgot:
"The angels will protect you, sweetie! I promise..." That was the last thing she said before her mind left forever!
After that I was alone! I went from one foster-family to another. Families that came and went, homes that were never mine and, in the end, I was always alone! I taught myself not to trust anyone... To keep my head down and wait for the future! I wanted to believe my grandmother... I wanted to believed her when she said that the angels would be there to protect me but they never came and I was alone...
I was always a good student, when I was a little girl I found out that if I studied hard enough, maybe one day I could find a way out of my personal Hell. So, when I reached the end of High School I was offered a scholarship to any college of my choice. I took it and went without looking back! I wanted a fresh start, I wanted to look ahead and find something worth fighting for!

"Do you want to know your story? What you are destined to do?" Ilias asked. I didn't knew what I wanted. I didn't knew if I wanted to know how my whole life would change.
With a small and shy voice, not sure if I wanted that I said:
"I think so..."
"This is a big story that will take too long to tell if we speak it! This story is broken through the memories of many of us, would you mind if we opened our minds to you?"
I didn't knew what to think of this! I would have angels inside my mind! Wise beings inside of me, showing me their memories! What if I got lost in their memories and forgot my owns?
"That will not happen... As you see, I was just in your mind and nothing happened to you! But we can tell it to you if you prefer it..." Ilias said.
"No, it's all right! I would like to know the story, please..."
"In order for you to understand your own story, you must know our story! Odiseas is the older of us, he was there in the begging of it all (one of the few that are still alive!) He will be the first to share his memories with you..." When Ilias stopped talking a man came closer. I could never have guessed that he was the older of them. Just like all of them he looked young, older then me but still young. He looked me in the eyes and then placed his hands on my shoulders. His grey eyes looked into mine and I got lost in them.



«Odiseas memory»
"I saw our beautiful leader on the top of the table. We were few in that time, no need for more of us! We helped those who needed help and the world lived peacefully with our help. Like every day we gathered around the Wisdom Table to hear what was reserved for us. I occupied my place next to Areti, I was second-in-comand and that meant that, after Areti, I was the one that kept everyone in their place.
"A new day is here, dear ones! The world is waiting for us... Let's help." Areti called everyone's attention. She always knew what to say or do... And that kept everyone safe and happy! When someone was worried or in trouble they would come to her.
Everyone nodded as Areti talked, giving each their assignments. When she reached Vasilis he didn't respond, Areti called him and told him that he, Polis and Patroklos would go to ???? to help end the war. Polis and Patroklos nodded but Vasilis didn't...
"Is something troubling you, Vasilis?" She asked, concern all over her voice! The pain or trouble of one of her people caused her almost as much suffer as to the person who was suffering!
"I can't stand this anymore, Areti! They don’t deserve our help… We find ourselves helping the humans day after day and, each day, they hurt themselves more and more… They kill each other, the innocents hurt in the hands of those who live for pain.” Vasilis looked up at Areti and I could see the pain on my best friend’s eyes. I knew him since I was created, we did almost all mission together and we watched each others backs, but I didn’t knew where he was trying to go with this. “I love you as much as anyone here. You are our leader, a good leader, and I couldn't ask for more! You know how much I work to help those who want and need our help but we help and a few days later they fight... We save and they kill each other... We should only help those who deserve our help, those who suffer in the hands of the bad ones. Some humans don't deserve our help, if they keep turning it down! I'm asking you to keep them without help for a few days. Let them suffer enough to see how much they need us! Even if they don't know we exist, they know that there is some power that helps them. Let them suffer enough to realize that they can't depend on us every second of the day."
Areti looked to me, hoping that I could make Vasilis see some sense, but what could I say? I believed, just like Areti, that we were created to help everyone but sometimes I felt like him! Sometimes when I saw a child die because of the stupidity of Man, I just couldn’t believe that we were meant to protect people like that!
“Vasilis… This is our purpose! We were created to help everyone, we need to hope that they will learn with their mistakes!” I tried my best to convince Vasilis, because I knew that if he didn’t get his own we would leave.
“That’s the problem, Odiseas! We have helped them for centuries and they still haven’t learned… We keep helping them and they keep thinking that it’s all right to stay like they are! You know me, Odiseas, maybe better then anyone else here but I won’t do this anymore! I won’t see children dieing because adults don’t pay attention to what they do! If we don’t stop helping those who don’t deserve our help I’ll go away.”
“Don’t do this, Vasilis! We are a family… Whatever happens we must be together!” Areti looked him in the eyes, almost begging him to stay.
“I don’t want to go. I love you all and you are my family, but if that’s what it takes I’ll go…” Vasilis looked at me. Maybe trying to convince me or make me convince Areti.
“I won’t do that! We were created to help. We do not choose who deserves our help! I’m sorry, Vasilis!” A tear rolled down Areti’s cheek as she got up and walked away.”

“That was a dark day in our history. Areti was never the same after that… Vasilis left and took with him many of our family!” Odiseas face was covered with a mask of pain.
“And he did great evil too!” Someone spoke from behind the shadows!
“Don’t, Menelaos! This is not the time…” Fillipos said.
“He wasn’t the evil being he is now! In the beginning he helped! Only those who deserved it but he helped… He punished those who were evil and helped those who were good! But as the time passed by he stopped thinking about his ideals and started to punish everyone…”
