Author's note: I do not own Barry Manilow. I do own the characters in this story. I got the idea to write this story last year. It's still in progress. I hope you like it so if you're Fanilow, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I had fun writing it. Let me know what you think of it.
Ch 1:
One Thursday afternoon, Jay McCarey was at his best friend's house. He and Bill Thompson were sitting on the couch in the living room with the living room on. What Bill hadn't yet heard was that Jay was going to record his first CD with a famous singer/songwriter in a month or so. Jay had been talking with his friend he had first made first made friends with when he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when he was eighteen years old and became an Elvis Presley impersonator, Barry Manilow.
"Why are you so quiet, Jay?" Bill asked his best friend.
"Is there anything to talk about? I do have news, but I want to save it for when we are with the others," he said.
"Okay. I do know what you mean when news do occur," Bill said.
"I hate repeating the same news twice," Jay said.
"I'm like that too," Bill agreed.
"This news I'm about to tell involves travel, Bill," Jay said.
"Jay, did I tell you I do okay on travel? I only travel when I'm with my family, but when I'm alone I get panic attacks. I've never told you this, but I have agoraphobia," Bill said.
"You never told me that. How long have you had this? I remember you having asthma and allergies," Jay said.
"I know, but these are all the things I have, Jay. I can't help it," Bill said.
Jay didn't reply at first.
When he did, he said, "This trip I'm going on next month, but I'm not sure what the exact dates are when I have to leave for Vegas yet so it's not final yet."
"So you're still working on your schedule?" Bill asked.
"Yeah. For now. I'm still working it out with a friend of mine, but he knows I moved out here recently," Jay said.
"What about facebook? Doesn't that work?" Bill asked.
"I know. Don't you friend your writer friends?" Jay asked.
"Some of them have a facebook page and some don't," Bill said.
"I understand that. It was nice of Marlene and Carla wanting to be friends with us and Karen a while back," Jay said.
"It was," Bill agreed.
Jay looked at the time on the living room clock and saw time had passed since he arrived at Bill's house around one - thirty that afternoon.
"Bill, I've got to go. I'm eating at Karen's house tonight. She wanted me to eat supper at her house," Jay said.
"I'm expecting Marlene back sooner or later. Don't forget she moved into my attic," Bill reminded his friend.
"I haven't forgotten. Are you sure you're okay on your own until either Marlene or Tina come back?" Jay asked.
"Yeah. I want to work some more of my book," Bill said.
"Okay. Don't you have your son to worry about?" Jay asked.
"Yeah. I have to pick him up in a couple hours anyway," Bill said.
"Thanks for the reminder," Bill said to Jay as he walked Jay to the front door.
"No problem," Jay said and the two walked to his car.
"I guess we'll get together with the others again sooner or later," Bill said.
"I guess so. Steve's out in Vegas with the new show," Jay said.
"I haven't forgotten. No wonder he didn't move with you and the others," Bill said.
"I guess he didn't want to move with you and leave unfinished work," Bill said.
"I guess that's why he decided to stay behind and finish the show first," Jay said.
"I don't like leaving unfinished work either," Bill said.
"I agree with you," Jay said, knowing what Bill meant.
