From animation to live action: Ryan Kelley stars
Cartoon Network’s hit animated series “Ben 10 Alien Force” is back – this time to excite fans worldwide with 10 times the action and 10 times the adrenaline with the much-anticipated live action film – “Ben 10: Alien Swarm.” The movie lifts off five years after the original Ben 10 series.

“Ben 10: Alien Swarm” follows teenage hero Ben Tennyson as he breaks ranks from the Plumbers (a secret organization that battles alien forces) to help Elena (Alyssa Diaz), a mysterious young woman; uncover an alien threat to our world. Joining him on his adventures are Gwen (Galadriel Stineman) and Kevin (Nathan Keyes), super-powered heroes in their own right, who must trust each other’s instincts to help save the day. Ryan Kelley, Cartoon Network’s up and coming star plays the role of Ben Tennyson in the movie. He is armed with the Omnitrix, which can transform into 10 different aliens.Kelley, 23, recently starred in “Prayers for Bobby,” Lifetime’s critically acclaimed and Emmy-nominated movie about Bobby Griffith, a teenage boy who commits suicide due to his family religious intolerance. He has also appeared in several films including “Cold Case,” “Women’s Murder Club” and “Ghost Whisperer.” As a teen actor, he also had recurring stint on television shows: “Smallville” and “Boston Legal.” In a Q&A opportunity with the Manila Bulletin, Kelley shares his early beginnings, being an actor, and in giving life to Ben: Manila Bulletin: Tell us your early beginnings. Kelley: I’ve pretty much grown up in the industry. I started at an early age doing commercials and print work.Q: What do you do apart from being an actor? A: I do what ever other kid around my age does. I love to snowboard in the winter and relax at the beach in the summer. I’m also a huge fan of movies so you can find me at the theater a lot. Q: How does it feel playing the role of Ben Tennyson in “Ben 10: Alien Swarm”? A: It’s an incredible honor to portray such a fun character. Ben is so full of energy and has such a good spirit that playing him on screen is a blast. Besides, turning into aliens is what every kid dreams of! Q: Was it hard giving life to an animated character, given that the “Ben 10” series has a large viewing public, especially kids? A: It wasn’t hard at all. Even though the character is a cartoon on the series, he’s just like any other average teenager. Q: What are your experiences while filming “Ben 10: Alien Swarm”?A: I truly had a blast! The whole crew couldn’t have been better. Everyone worked as hard as they could to make the film the best it could be, and we are all proud of what we’ve created. Not to mention my cast mates and director Alex Winter. They made everyday special and unique. Q: Recently, you starred in “Prayers for Bobby.” Was this your biggest role so far? A: I played Bobby Griffith, a troubled soul who’s lost and eventually takes his life. I don’t know if it was my biggest role so far, but it was definitely the most meaningful. The book “Prayers for Bobby” has truly touched the lives of millions of people around the world and being able to be a part of that is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Q: What are your preparations in shifting from drama to action (in “Ben 10”)? A: For any role I take on, I try to learn as much about the character and script as possible. There really isn’t a difference in preparation. I try to get to know the director as well as I can. See if his vision and mine for that particular character matches up and go from there. Bonding with your cast mates as much as possible is another important thing I find makes filming on day one easier. Q: From the roles you did in the past, what is the closest to your heart?A: Luckily I’ve had the opportunity to play a wide variety of roles. I can honestly say Ben 10 was the most exciting and thrilling role I’ve done to date. Everyday was like I was a kid on the playground. Pretending to turn into aliens, watching things blowing up, and driving fast colorful cars. What more can you ask for? I wouldn’t mind doing a sequel to Ben 10 :)“Ben 10: Alien Swarm” is directed by Alex Winter, who is also the film’s executive producer. Screenwriter is John Turman of “Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer” and “The Hulk” fame. The movie will premiere on Nov. 28, 6 p.m. at Cartoon Network.‘Ben 10’ mania invades ManilaIt’s Ben 10 mania in Manila this November once again as everybody’s favorite alien-busting hero, Ben Tennyson, sets the small silver screens ablaze with the premiere of “Ben 10 Alien Swarm.” In light of the hero’s triumphant return, Cartoon Network rewards fans with a month’s worth of awesome goodies and an exciting grand prize in the “Ben 10: Alien Swarm” Big Screen Invasion contest.
