Donovan Patton played Joe, the second star of the original Blue's Clues series. Joe was introduced towards the end of the fourth season before becoming the host of the series. He served as the host of the fifth and sixth seasons of the series. As the original series was ending, a spin-off series called Blue's Room was being made. It was a puppet show where Blue could talk. Joe appeared as a guest in an episode of the first season of Blue's Room before becoming a part of the main cast in the second season. Although Donovan Patton is no longer the host of Blue's Clues, he is involved in making the Blue's Clues & You! reboot series. Also, he has guest-starred in various episodes as Joe. In the reboot series, Joe works at the Present Store.

I'll be ranking Joe's appearances in Blue's Clues & You! from least favorite to favorite. Like with my ranking of Steve's appearances, I'll be ranking the episodes based off of Joe's role in the episodes.

9. Mailtime Mystery

Joe appears towards the end of the episode to sing a song with Steve and Rainbow Puppy for Mailbox's birthday. It's a very sweet scene, but I wish that Joe had a more prominent role in the episode.

8. Joshini the Amazing

Like in the previously mentioned episode, Joe doesn't appear until the end of the episode. It's a very fun appearance, because Josh gets to bring in Joe by using his magic skills. However, like the previous episode, it's a pretty small role for Joe.

7. Bluestock

Bluestock is a remake of an episode of the original series that had the same name. Like in the original, Joe gets a chance to show off his talents by singing a farm song. Joe has a smaller role in the remake than in the original, but it's still a good role.

6. 123's With Blue

This episode is about learning numbers and how to count. Joe becomes involved in the story when Josh visits the Present Store and needs help counting. Getting to visit the Present Store is even more fun in the reboot than it was in the original series due to Joe being the one working there instead of a talking cash register.

5. Blue's Night Before Christmas

In this Christmas episode, Joe is helping Santa Claus get ready for Christmas. Since Joe works at the Present Store, he has plenty of experience with gifts. This episode works Joe into the plot very well. He has good moments with Josh, Blue and the audience in addition to getting to reunite with Steve.

4. Meet Josh!

Joe appears in the very first episode of the reboot. He and Steve are there to teach their cousin, Josh, how to play Blue's Clues. Joe doesn't get as much time to shine as Steve, but it's still great to see him pass the torch to the new host and guide him in his journey. Seeing Joe being proud of his cousin's newfound success is a very sweet thing to witness.

3. The Case of the Missing Thinking Chair

Like in some of Joe's other appearances, Joe doesn't have a whole lot of screentime in this episode. However, what sets this episode apart from the others is what Joe gets to do. Joe makes the most out of every second he's on-screen by being a part of a twist that was so brilliant that I clapped when I saw it. Joe's appearance in this episode is arguably one of the best moments of the entire series, because it's both very surprising and incredibly touching.

2. Happy Birthday Blue

In this episode, Josh is preparing for Blue's birthday party. Since he needs to get a present for Blue, it makes perfect sense for Joe and the Present Store to appear in this episode. Although Josh is the host of the episode, he's not the only one who gets to celebrate Blue's birthday. Joe shows up to Blue's birthday party to celebrate the big day. His entrance is very cute and fun. It's also wonderful to have Joe be there to sing the ending song with Josh. This episode was a beautiful way to have the one of the original hosts join in on the fun with the new host by celebrating Blue's special day.

1. Blue's Mystery Present

In this episode, Josh and Blue are at the Present Store throughout a majority of the episode. In the episode, Joe is holding a contest to see who can guess what's in the mystery present in his store. This is the episode where Joe is most heavily involved in the main plot of the episode, so it's the one where he gets to shine the most. My favorite moment in the episodes comes when Josh realizes that he forgot to bring his notebook to the present store. At first, he doesn't know how he's going to play Blue's Clues without his notebook, but Joe lets Josh use his old notebook for the day. What's truly touching about this moment is that it reveals that Joe has a nostalgic attachment to his time playing Blue's Clues. He has such fond memories of playing with Blue and the audience that he keeps his old notebook in his current workplace. As a big Blue's Clues fan, it's very comforting to know that Joe has the same type of fondness for Blue's Clues as the fans do.
