The next morning, Cleah awoke laying next to her lost one. "Oh StarClan," she cried, looking at him. "I thought that was all a dream, but it's true!" The she-cat got up, and feebly licked Brisky's face.
"Cleah! There you are!" Shade's voice came from far behind her. "What are you doing-" Shade's voice was cut when seeing her brother laying limp on the floor. "Wha...How..." she sat down next to Cleah. "He...he was my brother, and I never hated him."
Cleah guessed Shade was with a patrol, because Brendon and Blitzy were with her. "Shade, Cleah, come on-" Blitzy stopped as she saw the horror. "Who...who killed him!?" she demanded, getting furious. Cleah shot up, barring her teeth and letting out a sharp snarl. "No one killed him! He went in here..." she decided not to tell the whole story. "...and I think a spike fell on him."
Later on, after Brisky had a proper burial, Blake realized that he had lost his nephew. Even though Brisky wasn't part of the Clan anymore, he still thought of him as his own son.
He sat in his den, listening to the Clan life outside. Blake tucked his paws under his chest, and tried to sleep.
A tiny kit scrabbled among the brambles and squealed with delight. "Blake, help!" the small kit joked. It laughed. "I'm stuck!" "I'll help you," Blake meowed, couldn't help big letting out a small giggle himself.
The kit batted him on the nose with sheathed claws, and purred with affection in his eyes. Suddenly a she-cat came and picked up the kit by his scruff. "Come one, you," the she-cat purred. "Come on, you too, Blake." the fire-colored she-cat mewed. Blake's jaw dropped slightly as he realized this cat was his mother. He tried to speak, but nothing came out. "Mother," he rasped, slowly walking towards her. "Mom!" he sped up; he was so happy to see her. Blossom gently set down the kit and walked to Blake. "Mom." Blake mewed gently, purring loudly. "I have something for you," Blossom mewed. "We all do." "All?" Blake asked, unsure of what she meant.
"Yes," Blossom answered, waving her tail in signal. All of a sudden other cats came brushing out the bushes and sitting by her side. "W-what?" Blake stuttered. "What do you have-" he stopped as he saw all of his lost Clan mates. There in front of him, sat Blossom, Bubbles, Bella, and Blake couldn't believe it, but a faint ghost-like faint shape of his father, and the cats he mostly hated: Dusty and Rose. Blake growled at them, but they didn't flinch. But... Blake thought. Where's Brisky? Blake felt sad for the young warrior. Blossom stepped forward and dipped her head. She glanced at Dusty and Rose and looked warily at Blake.
"These two apprentices meant no harm," she started. "But I still don't get why they're here..." she shook her head and looked at Blake sternly this time. "Pick one." she meowed, stepping back. "What? I don't get it." Blake meowed, sitting down. "Pick someone." a voice rasped among the crowd. He saw his father's sad, sorry gaze lie on him. "What do you mean?" Blake demanded. "Oh, just pick someone- anyone already!" an impatient hiss from Dusty caused Blake to snarl. "I...I guess I pick...Oh, this would be a lot easier if I knew why I was picking someone!" "Just pick someone," Bella growled. Blake thought for a minute then narrowed his eyes. "I pick Brisky,"
Blossom handed him the small kit and they all disappeared. The kit looked at him with huge, sad eyes and began to whimper. All Blake could do was stare at it.
"Wake up!" Sassy's eager voice awoke Blake from his dream. "Why?" Blake asked. Sassy's eyes light up with excitement. "There's a new she-cat here," Sassy mewed. "She was talking about StarClan to Butterscotch-" "StarClan? What does this rogue know about StarClan?" Blake cut his daughter off, and standing up. "Just come talk to her, I'm pretty sure she means no harm." Meowed Sassy.
Blake shrugged, and walked out. Sassy was right; there was a new she-cat in the clearing. Blake cleared his throat to get her attention. She looked at him, and stood up. "Sorry," she mewed. Blake started before she could again. "You were talking about StarClan?" Blake asked.
The cinder she-cat nodded, her blue eyes fearful. "Yes, they told me-" "Don't tell me out where everyone can hear, come inside my den and tell me. Don't mind about Snowbell, she can hear. So can the Deputy." Blake meowed. "Butch!" He called. "Come with us."
"So, let me get this straight: StarClan sent you a message saying you should be our medicine cat?" Butch demanded. "Why not the other Clans?" Blake slowly landed his gaze on Butch, and stared at him. You've got to be kidding, he thought. How immature. "Well, what is your name?" Blake asked the she-cat. "Echo," she responded.
"Okay, Echo," Blake meowed. "Welcome to FireClan."
