After going through and re-watching a few episodes, I noticed a few small things about the scenes with Cal and Gillian. I decided to make a small article about the observations I’ve seen. This is basically my opinion, so if you don’t agree with it, that’s fine. Oh, by the way, if you haven’t watched all thirteen of the episodes, there will be spoilers. Some observations might be things that you already noticed, so this might just remind you about all of the Callian moments that they had. Well, enjoy!
Observation #1: The touching. I was glad at the end of ‘Sacrifice’ when Alec was basically out of the picture (they’re not actually divorced yet, but still…)! Cal and Gillian looked like they could start making-out any minute…but they were once again interrupted by Torres. Before Cal left, however, they were touching each other, like in a few of the previous episodes (‘Blinded’, for example). It started out with Cal touching her shoulder, then Gillian touched his chest, and it ended with Cal patting her knee (or as some people believe, he might have been handing her something…). Anyways, I remembered that in the beginning of ‘Undercover’, Gillian touched Alec’s chest the same way. We all know that Alec and Gillian didn’t have the best relationship, but they were still trying to keep their marriage together (well, at least Gillian was).
Observation #2: Emily seems closer to Gillian than Zoe. Is it just me or does Emily seem to be closer to Gillian than her mom, Zoe? The only thing I ever heard Zoe say to Emily was ‘Have a wonderful dinner sweetheart’ in the episode ‘Better Half’. This might’ve been due to the amount of episode’s that Emily and Zoe were in, and I might have missed another line Zoe said to Emily, but it doesn’t seem like they’re that close. There was also that scene in ‘Sacrifice’ where Cal, Zoe, and Emily were talking about where Emily was going to be staying. I don’t remember Emily talking to Zoe directly (she only said something about ‘you just got to telling him now?’ to Zoe, but that was sort of towards Cal, too, and it was unanswered by Zoe). Gillian has talked to Emily before, their first conversation occurring in ‘The Perfect Score’, I think it was. Emily was cleaning a room and was carrying a pile of stuff (trash, I think it was), when Gillian came along and helped Emily carry a few things. There was also that scene (in ‘Sacrifice’) where Emily came into Gillian’s office and told her ‘he(Cal) is so much happier when he’s with you’. Gillian then told Emily that her mom was waiting for her, causing Emily to slowly get up to get her stuff. Emily didn’t seem like she wanted to go and leave with Zoe.
Observation #3: Upset when with someone else. It also looked like that in the scene with Gillian and Emily; Gillian seemed disappointed when Emily stated that her mom and dad had been spending a lot of time with each other recently. Maybe she seemed disappointed because I overanalyzed it, but it did look like she was. She looked at Emily, but when she mentioned about her mom and dad, Gillian looked down/away. Gillian also seemed sort of sad when Cal couldn’t have dinner with her because he had something else to do (little did she know he was out trying to protect her) in the episode ‘The Best Policy’.
Observation #4: Hostility towards Zoe and Alec. Another thing that was very noticeable in the show was how Cal acted towards Gillian’s husband and how Gillian acted towards Cal’s ex-wife. Cal always spied on Alec, trying to see if he was cheating, while Gillian warned Cal that he shouldn’t work on the case Zoe had given him. Cal acts like he doesn’t like Alec, and Gillian does the same to Zoe. It was funny watching Cal’s face when Alec and Gillian kissed right in front of him in ‘Undercover’. It was also hilarious when Gillian started making all this comments to Zoe (‘we still have a receptionist here, don’t we?’) while Zoe did the same to Gillian (‘…take him to the zoo if you’d like’). Whether they’re jealous or they dislike Alec and Zoe, it’s still a good sign.
Observation #5: They forgive each other Whenever Cal and Gillian are mad at each other, they forgive each other pretty easily. In ‘Depraved Heart’, Gillian wasn’t there when Cal needed her, so when he saw her they had a small little argument. Later in the episode, Cal and Gillian appeared to be back to normal with Gillian comforting Cal about the suicides. There was also the disagreement they had in ‘Blinded’. The argument might have been a set up from Cal, but Gillian didn’t know that. The next time Gillian sees Cal was when he saved her from the copycat rapist, which seemed to clear the argument from their minds.
