I was entirely consumed with the world that loomed above me. Everything was so clear with my new eyesight that I really didn’t know how I saw anything before. Then I sat up and remembered what happened 2 days ago. I was distracted from my fury for a second, noticing that Jasper, Alice, Carlisle, Emmett, Edward and Esme we surrounding me. I snapped out of my train of thought as I remembered my fury. Part of my mind knew that this anger was just being over-fuelled by the newborn part of my new self, but I couldn’t help it. I got to my feet and hissed, stepping towards Alice. Carlisle was on my hit list too, but Alice was closer. I tucked into a crouch and sprang at her. I had barely left the ground when I was knocked over and pinned to the ground by Jasper. He growled at my. “Enough of that!” He warned, glaring at my darkly. I snarled and snapped at his face but he kept himself safely out of reach. “Calm down Katherine.” He told me as he stood me up. I let myself relax for a second. He let go of me, and the moment he did I got a good bite into his wrist. “Ouch, damn!” He growled. I just laughed. “Katherine, come with me now. We’re going hunting before you try to hurt anyone else.” Carlisle stepped forward, speaking for the first time. I hissed menacingly at Alice-I soooooo wasn’t finished with her- and followed Carlisle out the door.
We hunted (well I hunted, he watched, claiming he wasn’t thirsty) for about half an hour. When I decided I was done, he lept up to a nearby branch and sat on it. “Come here, we need to talk.” He said, motioning for me to join him. In a blindingly fast movement that even surprised me, I was on the branch. “What do you want?” I spat, glaring at the gorgeous man. “You need to go back and apologize. What we did to you was wrong, but if you are going to stay with us I need to know that you aren’t going to be a danger or be hostile to anyone else. If you cannot follow that rule then you can leave for a bit until you have a handle on your emotions and then join us again. Please Katherine, don’t hold a grudge. I am very sorry for what we did.” He leaned in and kissed me softly on the lips. The darker side of me wanted to stay out in the middle of the forest and make out with him, but I pulled myself together and broke the kiss. “No. I may want to rip your head off but I won’t let you do this to Esme. You LOVE her, and she adores you. Don’t make a stupid mistake and ruin what you have. What happened just now will stay here. I will warn Edward not to say anything, and Alice too. You’ve ruined one life; I’m not going to let you ruin another as well.” I paused briefly to watch the sting in my words make him flinch. “Katherine...” Carlisle started. I lept off the branch gracefully and headed for the house, letting Carlisle and what had just happened disappear into the vast forest. It only took 30 seconds before I was stopped in front of the house. I paused, took a deep breath and walked back into the house. Alright. First order of business: find Jasper. I thought to myself. I heard him upstairs and a second later found myself standing in the doorway. “I’m sorry Jasper. I lost my temper and I feel bad. I hope that your wrist is okay.” I told him. He glanced up and half smiled. “It’s okay, my wrist is fine. Don’t worry.” He said, and I abruptly felt much calmer and more peaceful. One down, one to go. I tried to smuggle the anger I felt towards Alice as I headed into the empty living room where she was sitting. I opened my mouth to tear a strip off of her for what she had done to me but the look on her face stopped me short. She looked absolutely distraught, like someone had died. She barely even looked up at me as I sat beside her. “Alice...” I began but she cut me off. “I know- how could I, I am the worst person in the world, you will never get your life back, what did you deserve for me to do that to you, you will hate me forever...” She rambled on. “Alice, stop! Don’t beat yourself up over this. You did what you felt was right for me and your family. It is hard to get used to the new me, but I will get the swing of things eventually. And hell- I am so freaking gorgeous! I mean, c’mon, look at me! You’re my sister and best friend. I don’t hate you, I could never! Please, I am not upset anymore, so try to cheer up. I miss my chipper, fashionista Alice!” I smiled at her, waiting for a response. “OMG- seriously? You’re not mad? Thank god!” She cried and pulled me into a tight hug.

I was so distracted I didn’t see him coming!” She squeaked and looked at me. No time to get you out. Put these contacts on-she darted into the bathroom to grab them- and stay by me. This is going to be extremely hard, but you must resist the temptation. We all did it, and so can you.” She put her arm over my shoulder and steered me to the couch. I popped in the contacts and sat down with Alice just as the door opened. With her grasp on me, it would be too hard for me to make a move for Charlie, without them being able to distract him and drag me out of the room. A man who looked to be around 56 stepped in. He had dark brown hair and brown eyes. “Hey there! Where is everyone?” Charlie asked Edward. “They’re around; they will be down in a minute.” Edward answered. I barely heard him. The scent coming off of Charlie set my throat on fire all over again. Damn. My body tensed automatically at the scent but I shook it off. Alice squeezed my shoulder sympathetically. Charlie seemed to notice me for the first time. “Hi, I’m Katherine. I’m a friend of the Cullens.” I smiled, hoping to look like I didn’t want to kill him right then and there. He took a step back. Oops, too much teeth showing. I toned the smile down and shut up before I said something stupid. Jeez, this was excruciating. I wonder how the Cullens managed it with such nonchalance. “Hey Charlie. Katherine and I were just in the middle of something, so we can catch up with you later!” Alice said. “No problem, go on. I’ll just wait here for Bells.” He plopped down on a chair. We got up and left the room, hearing Edward offer Charlie a drink.

I am so glad you didn’t try to rip my arm off in efforts to get to him!” Alice exclaimed. “Yeah, yeah.” I said, distractedly. Now that I wasn’t completely focused, the newborn instinct to get the blood kicked in. I sniffed several times and stepped towards the stairs where Charlie sat only a short leap away... “Oh no you don’t!” Alice exclaimed as she dragged me to a window and we hopped out. She took off into the forest where we came to a halt in front of Carlisle. “Charlie’s here.” Alice informed him. “What?! Keep her out here and I will go deal with him.” I could feel his eyes on me but I refused to look at him. With his eyes lingering on me for a brief second, he left. I hopped up onto a branch about 40 ft off the ground and Alice did the same. “So what do you guys do all day?” I asked her. “Well, we go to school. We don’t need to, but it’s something to do and it keeps people from getting suspicious. When your eyes are a less alarming colour and you have total control on your thirst you can join us too. We can probably go back to the house and just get rid of all the human stuff that you won’t be needing anymore.” Alice suggested. Once in the room I rooted around while Alice kept me company.”Here.” I said as I tossed a half empty box of tampons at Alice. She eyed them for a minute. “I know- as soon as Charlie leaves we will pelt Emmett with them. I’ll bet you that these are the kind of things that freak Mr. Macho right out.” She whispered so that Emmett couldn’t hear her from his car in the garage. For the first time in quite awhile I giggled. We finished up with my room and headed downstairs for the ambush, grabbing Rosalie and Nessie on the way. We distributed the weapons and crept silently into the garage. I looked at them and nodded. “Attack!” We shouted and pelted Emmett with the tampons. He growled and lept for us. We took off, but he caught Nessie. “Let me go!” She shouted, half snarling and half laughing. I threw myself at Emmett, freeing her. “Go!” I yelped as I pinned Emmett down underneath me. He tried as hard as he could, but I was stronger and therefore he remained on the ground. “And that, my friend, is for all the times you were an ass to us. I deftly leapt away from him and he stalked away muttering to himself. “Nice one, girls!” I high fived them and we headed inside.
