In the far north, farther than Crystal Empire, beyond Yak Yakstan, lies Kingdom of Midnight Sun, a vast land of ice and snow. Contrary to all expectation, ponies live even in this harsh realm. They grow plants they need in warm places called green fields heated from underground by eternal flame. Without its effect life in Kingdom of Midnight Sun wouldn't be possible. Even Equestria would be much colder. So ruler of this country, an alicorn queen is also guardian of the eternal flame. Many baddies tried to gain control of the flame, and subjugate the world. Fortunately most of them couldn't stand local weather conditions, and gave it up. Magic in this kingdom is strongest during the polar night, that lasts more than a month. Origins of legend of the hearth's warming eve come from here. Demon Whisperer tricked a tall unicorn lady called Blizzard and another two unicorn mares, so that they used their power against each other, which among others caused a snow calamity in the far Equestria. In Southern Kingdom former Blizzard's student princess Morning Star let one snow flake land on her hoof, and said, "This is magic of professor Blizzard. She is in a trouble!" One Equestrian pony heard it, and since that day ponies of Equestria believe there are an evil horses called blizzards who try to freeze hearts of ponies and take their souls.
