Making Plans
[Bolt's Point of View]
Three weeks have passed and I was almost halfway through my recovery. At this rate, I would be able to come home by the end of next month. However, I was torn between two places. Sure, I wanted to be back at home with Penny, but there was also something that made me want to stay here. If you read the second-to-last chapter and the one before that, you'll know what I mean.
Maria walks into the room and asks, "Is everything okay?"
I turned to her and replied, "Yeah... I just have the usual cabin fever. What are you up to?"
"I was thinking, we aren't officially mates, right?"
"Well, we only admitted our love the night before. Why?"
"I think I'd feel better if we had an official ceremony."
I gave it some thought. "That'll help. It'll give a stronger commitment. When do you want to do this?"
"I was thinking sometime next week."
"Thinking what sometime next week," Cobra asked as he entered the room.
I answered, "Maria wants to make our mate ship status official."
"You mean as a wedding? Good idea. Can't wait. So, should it be just us, or can anyone nearby come? Also, where do you want to do this?"
"It would feel a little awkward to do this with only two cats and a hamster watching, maybe we should have a few other animals show up," Maria said.
"Sounds good," I replied, "but we might want to be careful should 'You-Know-Who' show up."
We all cringed at that sentence. Bruce already caused enough trouble. The last thing we wanted was for him to mess up what would be the best day of our lives. "Maybe I could look over the area and find a good place safe from him. As for the guests, I'll carefully select them," Cobra suggested.
Maria and I talked it over and said, "Sounds good."
"Okay, now I just need a complete knowledge of the area..."
"Why not ask Mittens, she's been living here too."
"Thanks. I'll ask her."
After Cobra left, Maria looked back at me. She looked like she wanted to ask something else. I asked, "Is there anything else?"
Maria answered, "Well... Yes, but I think I'm about to go ahead of myself. Maybe we should wait until after the wedding."
"Maria, remember what I said, it's not good to keep things bottled up. You can tell me anything."
"Okay... I was thinking we could... well..." She circled her paw over her stomach.
"You want to eat, but can't we do that now?"
"Okay, I may need to rephrase that. Bolt, how would you feel if we woke up to tiny paws around the house?"
"Wait, are you saying that you..." Maria nodded. "I don't know... I think that's something that I need to think about. Besides, I still need to recover. Besides, if I couldn't take care of Bruce, then how can I-"
"Bolt, you did what anyone would do. That's more than good enough for me. Believe me, you'll be a great father."
"Well, I'm afraid I don't see that happening anytime soon."
"Oh. Okay. Don't worry about it; you don't have to decide right now. When you do decide, then I'll be right here waiting for you." She then touched her nose to mine. "I promise. In the meantime, I am feeling a little tired."
"Well, no one's stopping you..."
Maria then got underneath me and curled up. I wrapped my foreleg around her and rested my head on hers.
[Penny's Point of View]
"Okay, what is it you want to show me," I asked. Ryan called me over to his house saying that he wanted to show me something.
"It's just around this corner," he replied. We looked into the guest room and saw the cutest thing ever: Bolt and Maria were snuggling together. "What do you think of that?"
"Wow! I don't know what to say."
"Think we might be looking at the cutest canine couple. I think Maria's one lucky dog."
"There's no doubt about that..."
